Due to ongoing year on year growth, our clients, a multi-disciplinary award winning consultancy are looking to add a Principal Bridges Engineer to the business.

As an ideally Chartered Structures Engineer you will be tasked with continuing to grow this sector, using your detailed knowledge of Bridge and Structural engineering to expand this department and also win new business within the UK.

You will be able to develop and initiate schemes from inception through to completion. This role involves the day to day supervision and management of technical staff and the co-ordination and direction of staff and projects where other design teams are involved.

The work ranges from feasibility to full scheme designs, detailed designs, assessments, inspections, construction support and assess management.

You will also be responsible for the commercial aspects of the projects and liaising with the Project Director or Manager and the client informed of all developments associated with the project.

As a client facing role you will play a crucial part in understanding and maintaining knowledge on the client's business, systems etc, building clients relationships and consolidating both the business and your personal credibility in the industry.

Key Requirements:

-Varied proven experience in highways/structures thus demonstrating the ability to resolve and determine cause of problems and robust solutions.

-Experience in leading a team of engineers, technicians and supply chain partners, client management and managing projects.

-Excellent communication and report writing skills.

-Ability to work outdoors and Supervise works.

-Control commercial, managerial and technical aspects of assigned projects.

-Preparing fee proposals for tenders and also call off works.

-Bridge/Structural design and/or assessment projects in accordance with current industry standards.

-Strong Stakeholder and Client liaison.

-A strong structural background is key


-Project managing / directing projects in accordance with Client requirements.

-Provide technical direction on projects and high level advice on complex technical issues.

-Ensure all project files are up to date and comply with the QA system.

-Check output produced by other staff in terms of reports / drawings etc and its certification.

-Contribute to the management of the Traffic Engineering and Technology Team.


-Respond to Client and customer requests and enquiries and ensuring that their needs are met.

-Forge working links with professionals in Client partner organisations.

-To input into marketing and business development activity for the business unit.

-To actively sell other aspects of the business to clients.


-To be flexible - carry out any duties as and when required for the greater good of the company.

-To manage all staff under his / her department / core area effectively and encourage and motivate performance.

-Undertake appraisals and input into disciplinary matters.

-To be the Client's primary point of contact for projects managed within his / her business unit.

-Develop staff in accordance with the Training Plan and the Company's Career Development procedures.
