Job Title: Assistant Accountant Department: Accounts Office Location: Senior School Reporting To: Financial Controller Salary: £18,000 to £21,000 Hours: 30 Hours per week on a flexible basis Overall purpose of the role: To maintain the accounting records of Edinburgh Academy Trading Limited, the School's wholly owned trading subsidiary, and to provide payroll information to the School's external payroll provider on a monthly basis. This will involve working with the Purchase Ledger Clerk, the Fees Ledger Clerk, the Sports Centre Manager and the Events & Lettings Manager to ensure that all financial records are kept up to date. Principal Accountabilities General Duties Assist and deputise for two existing accounts team members on accounts department work as and when required. Gain an understanding of all roles within the accounts department. Trading Company Accountant Duties Maintain the Trading Company's accounting records on SAGE 50 Accounts Professional, including: Posting all purchase and sales ledger invoices; Posting income from bank statements and preparing bank reconciliations; Preparing journals, accruals and deferred income; Maintaining the fixed asset registers; Preparing the payroll for the Trading Company staff (currently 5 staff); Preparing quarterly VAT returns; Preparing draft management accounts from SAGE for review by the Financial Controller; Preparing draft annual budgets for review by the Financial Controller. Liaising closely with the Sports Centre Manager and Events & Lettings Manager to ensure all income is correctly recorded. School Payroll Accounting Duties Calculate payroll changes on a monthly basis for supply teachers and staff overtime. Work with the School's HR department to ensure all payroll changes are uploaded to the School's external payroll provider (currently sdworx) on a timely basis. Preparation of monthly pension returns to the Scottish Public Pensions Agency and to Scottish Widows. Post payroll journals on the School's accounting ledger. Assist the Financial Controller with preparation of annual budgets if required. These key tasks are not intended to be exhaustive, but they highlight a number of major tasks that the post-holder may be reasonably expected to undertake.
