Medical Director - Hospice (Palliative Care)
£70,000 - £103,000 (DOE - NHS Consultant Contract)

Compass Associates are working with a valued client to recruit a medical Director/Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join the hospice's senior leadership team.
The Company

This Hospice provides a broad range of end-of-life care services across Swindon and north east Wiltshire. Their care is delivered in across a 12 bed In-Patient Unit, Day Hospice, Hospital and patients' homes.

The Hospice is committed to ensuring that the patients and families we provide comfort and care for each year receive exceptional support towards the end of their lives, and to influencing and enhancing best practice in end-of-life delivered by other providers.

The role

You will be a current medical director/consultant in palliative medicine, you will be a key member of the leadership team contributing to continual improvement of services. reporting into the chair of board of trustees and provide professional advice to the CEO on standards and the speciality of palliative medicine.

You will also manage the senior medical team, provide supervision for GP specialist trainees and work with the education team to develop medical teaching events within the hospice.

The successful candidate will lead a medical team, which consists of 5 direct reports. You will be working as a senior clinician across all clinical services at the hospice, working towards the hospices strategic aims whilst delivering clinical excellence.

Essential Requirements

- Primary medical qualification
- MRCP or MRCGP or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- Entry on Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine
or within six months of obtaining CCST/CCT
- Higher degree (e.g. MA, MSc, PhD, MD)
- Experience in working effectively within a specialist palliative care unit / hospice and within a multi disciplinary team
Recent experience of UK healthcare systems and practices with specific understanding of the role of independent hospices.
- Experience of leading medical teams
- Ability to inspire, motivate and develop medical staff
- Training and experience in the management of patients with specialist palliative care needs.
- Practice in palliative medicine at senior level for at least five years
- A proven track record in medical leadership and management

Above all you must be an experienced clinician with a passion for the sector.
