East Craigs Primary School and Nursery

Salary: £16,287 - £18,316 (pro rata for sessional)
Hours: 36 per week
(term time only, 39 weeks per year)

East Craigs Primary School is a non-denominational primary school, which serves the area of northwest Edinburgh including significant areas of owner occupied housing and local authority tenants/housing association. The Senior Leadership Team consists of a Head teacher, one full time Depute Head Teacher, a part-time Depute Head Teacher (0.6) and a Depute Head Teacher (0.4 FTE)/Principal Teacher (0.6 FTE).

The current school roll is 503 which includes our Nursery, which caters for 40 children in the morning and 40 in the afternoon. We are extending our Early Learning and Childcare Provision through the Forest Kindergarten approach. The class configuration is currently 15 classes, including a composite P2/3 class. East Craigs are recruiting an Early Years Assistant to support children in the playrooms and throughout the learning environment through organised activities, providing support, assistance and encouragement to help each individual child achieve the best learning and development outcomes possible.

Early Years Assistants are required to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council within 6 months of starting employment. They are also required to achieve an SCQF Level 2 Social Services for Children and Young People qualification within 5 years of being registered with the SSSC and this is funded by the early years service. There will be an opportunity for those who wish to progress to SCQF Level 3 to receive funding for this.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.

The City of Edinburgh Council applies a Living Wage allowance to ensure that all employees earn at least £9.07 per hour. Successful applicants will be paid the hourly rate as advertised, plus the allowance, in order to bring their earnings to £9.07 per hour.
