Located in Watford and reporting to the Head of Procurement Operations, this new role will provide leadership and direction to the Category management function throughout the sourcing project lifecycle to improve the quality, efficiency and results of our procurement activities. Essential Job FunctionsProcurement Knowledge/Analytical Skills:Strategic procurement exposure and knowledge of sourcing lifecycleCommercial awareness and understanding of market dynamicsEfficient at interpreting sourcing requirementsUsing very strong analytical skills, assist Procurement colleagues in getting to the best fit supplier selection process, e.g. Options analysis, scoring schemes, evaluation models, scenario analysis, cost models etc.Good understanding of Contract terminology and medical device regulationsProcurement Technology Knowledge:Strong ambassador for use of benchmarking, market research, spend analytics and eSourcing as part of the overall sourcing lifecycleWork with remote team to ensure smooth running of sourcing activitiesManage, promote, support and run e-sourcing events across multiple spend categories, to ensure procurement approach the market in the right way, using the right tools and technology.Be a subject matter expert on procurement systems, being the go to person for advice on event management, optimisation and for any procurement technology escalations across procurementAssist in the continuous improvement, implementation and alignment of procurement processes and relevant documentationSupport/deliver systems training and capability build where appropriatePeople Management:Represents the team to senior management in Procurement and with key business stakeholders across S&NResponsible for the management and delivery of all members of the remote/offshore Upstream teams and requires the ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop individuals at different stages of careerEngage with all internal and external customers to provide the highest quality of customer service in the resolution of escalated issuesRequirementsCandidates should ideally have a degree in Business, Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent fieldIt is highly recommended that candidates are CIPS members or working towards membershipCandidates should have extensive Procurement systems related experienceHigh Level knowledge of purchasing and supply chain management (category management, supply markets, negotiation, tendering processes and strategies etc).Significant relevant commercial experience, alongside relevant experience at a managerial level.Significant experience of strategy development and application within a complex commercial environment.Significant experience of influencing internally and externally to a senior level.A comprehensive understanding of the business environment within which Procurement works and the ability to translate this into tangible activities.Successful management of programmes of change.Results orientation – ensuring delivery to S&N Business bottom line.Experience with SAP or SAP Ariba procurement solutions preferableAbout UsSmith & Nephew is a diversified advanced medical technology business that supports healthcare professionals in more than 100 countries to improve the quality of life for their patients.We have leadership positions in Orthopaedic Reconstruction, Advanced Wound Management, Sports Medicine and Trauma:Orthopedics Reconstruction - joint replacement systems for knees, hips and shouldersAdvanced Wound Management - wound care treatment and prevention products used to treat hard to heal woundsSports Medicine - minimally invasive surgery of the jointTrauma & Extremities - products that help repair broken bonesWe have over 16,000 employees around the world.
