You MUST have the following experience:

  • Current or recent experience as a Development Manager/Software Engineering Manager for a team of 5-10 cross-functional engineers delivering front office trading applications
  • Strong man-management including hiring, appraisals, mentoring, delegation and performance management
  • Excellent ability to work with stakeholders across the business to collaborate on strategy, deliver and manage expectations
  • Experience managing teams that are delivering .NET applications with modern technology or approaches (for example CI/CD automation, AWS, microservices, AI, ML, NoSQL)
  • A background as a .NET developer/programmer/software engineer
  • Agile

The following is DESIRABLE, not essential:

  • Finance
  • AWS certified

Role: Development Manager (Software Engineering Manager .NET C# Microservices Developer Development AWS Cloud Digital Agile AI Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning CI CD DevOps Continuous Integration Deployment Finance) required by our financial client in London. This is an internal role in the company's 'lab' team (AWS, Azure, Docker, Terraform, AI, Machine Learning, Robotics, React, Angular, NoSQL) where disruptive in-house and third party technology is tested, built and implemented into the enterprise. The team is also responsible for generating in-house facing solutions for common, company-wide problems. These could be web or mobile based. It is an Agile automated, fail-fast environment.

You will manage and lead a cross-functional team of 8 comprising developers, an architect, business analyst and UX specialist. You will have responsibility for the team from a man-management perspective, including hiring, appraisals, personal development and performance management. You will delegate the work in the team and meet with stakeholders to gather high-level requirements and help define priority and technical strategy in the team. You will also generate budgets together with the director for this area.

From a technical sense, you will make some contribution to technical designs and delivery. The role, however, will largely be hands-off. The company is largely a Microsoft user though, so a background in .NET development would be most appropriate. Any knowledge or exposure to cloud technology (GCP, AWS, Azure), machine learning or artificial intelligence would be very desirable, whether commercially gained or from home projects, but is not essential.

Upcoming projects include a company-wide digitisation programme in which there will be plenty of greenfield project work using the latest technologies. There will also be enhancements and upgrades to existing applications. Other projects include a greenfield in-house scheduling tool, the implementation of a robotic process automation tool (RPA) on BluePrism, the adoption of natural language and the integration of applications built by other innovation teams in the group.

The lab is based in London, where all the team work out of Monday to Wednesday. You can work from home or one or from one of the regional hubs on Thursdays and Fridays.

Salary: £80k- £90k + 5-10% Bonus + £6.7k Flex + Pension + Travel Expenses
