Founded in 2004, our client is an Education Business Partnership that supports and opens doors for young people aged 3-24 from Hackney and beyond. Through a range of programmes, they provide thousands of young people with the skills they need to access and succeed in the world of work. They support and inform their aspirations, raise achievement levels and enhance social mobility, giving young people access to a world of choices that may otherwise have remained out of reach.

Since its establishment, our client has grown rapidly and now employs 30 staff, with a turnover of £1.2m per annum. Currently working with 42 schools, more than 12,000 young people take part in their programmes every academic year, involving over 750 volunteers from their network of employers. In 2014 they established their independent school, Inspired Directions School, offering alternative provision for learners whose needs cannot be met within mainstream education.

Position: Programme Manager
Location: Hackney, London with travel to neighbouring boroughs.
Job type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: £27,000-£30,000 depending on experience.
Benefits: 28 days plus bank holidays, personal pension plan

About the role:

Working in our client’s Primary Team, you will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating their primary programmes. You’ll play a key role in their small busy team bringing together volunteers, businesses and school staff to deliver a high quality service to primary schools and young people in the boroughs of Hackney, Camden, Islington and beyond.


- Delivery: To manage and ensure the high quality delivery of our clients primary programmes, activities and services to meet the needs of schools, children and young people to achieve agreed delivery targets, standards and health and safety requirements.
- Liaise and consult with primary schools to understand their needs and priorities and plan appropriate programmes and activities.
- Organise and deliver work-related learning, enterprise, mentoring and transition activities and services to schools, children and young people, to achieve agreed outcomes and meet their service level agreement commitments, in accordance with our client’s health and safety and quality frameworks.
- Building strong, proactive relationships and liaising with school staff to ensure effective two-way communication and that schools maintain high levels of satisfaction with the support and service provided.
- Where programme activities take place out of school, carrying out health and safety checks and risk assessments, as necessary, to ensure that the necessary standards and precautions are adhered to.
- Establishing links and sharing good practice with other programme providers.
- Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of school curriculum requirements, government policy, general developments and good practice in the fields of work-related and vocational learning, mentoring, employee volunteering and education business link activities
- Project Development: To ensure that our client is able to both initiate and develop new ideas and respond quickly, effectively and creatively to new opportunities.
- Regularly reviewing the relevance and quality of assigned primary programmes and project activities.
- Designing and developing new and innovative programmes that meet the needs of children and young people, their teachers and other school staff.
- Supporting and informing the longer term sustainability of projects and programmes.
- Finance and Contract Management: To ensure that all activities are fully costed and monitored and are matched by agreed revenue streams.
- Ensuring that the delivery of assigned programmes and services meets the terms of their service level agreements and contracts, agreed targets and deadlines and the conditions of any relevant funding bodies.
- Monitoring time and expenditure for each project against agreed outputs and preparing and submitting output returns where appropriate.
- Authorising and monitoring project expenditure against agreed budgets.
- Employer Engagement: To research and secure a range of employers and employee volunteers to support the delivery of assigned primary programmes.

About you:

- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- Working in a multi-cultural education setting.
- Working on projects that involve schools, children and / or young people.
- Track record of managing successful projects and partnership working.
- Experience of planning relevant activities for children and young.
- Awareness of equalities issues.
- Understanding of how schools operate.
- Up to date knowledge of primary school curriculum requirements.
- Excellent communication skills including managing and leading a team and the ability to persuade and negotiate effectively.
- Ability to build and sustain positive, professional relationships with a range of individuals from young people to employers and to manage their expectations.
- Excellent and Impactful: excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Caring and Committed: demonstrable commitment to the aims and purpose of our client and interest in working with young people.


- Qualified Teacher status or significant relevant informal teaching experience.
- Experience of working with and managing volunteers.
- Knowledge of government policy and good practice in work-related and vocational learning and / or employee volunteering.
- Ability to deliver engaging presentations to groups of children.
