Technical Project Manager


Due to continued growth within the business, a Technical PM role has been created due to expansion within the team. This role would suit someone who has experience of working as an engineer and has a strong technical background in infrastructure deployment and is used to working on or managing multiple IT projects.

Located in the heart of Birmingham, provides IT support services and solutions to a range of customers. As part of a highly successful £60 million group, one of the fastest growing privately-owned technology companies in the UK and as such, recognised in the Sunday Times TechTrack 100 listings.

Responsibilities will include:

* Managing multiple external projects within agreed timescales and to high standards
* Managing multiple stakeholders including clients, senior manager, engineers and 3rd parties
* Developing project scopes of work
* Creating project plans and managing projects to deliver against those plans to ensure work is completed within agreed timescales
* Identifying and managing or mitigating project issues and risks
* Managing multiple projects from simple installation through to high end complex deployment
* Liaising with pre-sales from conception through to implementation
* Working with sales and other business functions to facilitate smooth deployment of projects
* Awareness of costs associated to the business against the projects
Creating or providing input to commercial contracts for software implementation projects
* Working with both public and private sector clients
Experience required:
* Previous experience working within an engineer role across multiple sites
* Strong technical background and a passion for IT
* Previous project management experience or a desire to move from an engineer role
* Experienced in a range of project activities including producing plans, estimating effort to completion, issue and risk management, scope and change management
* Ability to manage multiple projects and manage challenging and often senior stakeholders
* Project Management qualification would be advantageous
* Strong communication skills, verbal and written
* Confident and dynamic individual with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical individuals and groups

* Server Virtualisation (e.g. vSphere/HyperV)
* Storage - SAN's (e.g. NetApp FAS, HP MSA/Lefthand)
* Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 & Active Directory
* Exchange 2003 to 2013
* IPv4 Network Switching/Design - Layer2/3
* Next Generation Firewalls (e.g. Dell Sonicwall, Cisco, Checkpoint, ISA, TMG, etc) - IPSEC
* Terminal Services / Remote Desktop Services
* Remote working (SSLVPN's)
* VDI - VMWare Horizon View, Citrix XenDesktop
* Citrix XenApp
* 2FA (PIN Safe - Swivel, Vasco, RSA)
* Aventail SSLVPN
* Switch configuration and design (HP/Cisco/Dell)
* Thin client configuration
We need an individual who is a self-starter and has a hands-on approach to project management with a strong technical background, from a re-seller background.
The role is mainly office based in Birmingham but there is likely to be some requirement to travel to customer sites across the UK.
