Teacher of Support for Learning (permanent; part-time 0.6 FTE) St Margaret’s School for Girls is the oldest all-through girls’ school in Scotland and the only single sex school in Aberdeen. The school enjoys a fine reputation for academic excellence. We offer a wide choice of subjects and extra-curricular activities, and encourage all girls to aim high. We are seeking a suitably qualified graduate with a proven track record of excellent teaching to join our highly valued Support for Learning team which works closely with junior and senior school colleagues to support pupils with additional support needs. St Margaret’s teachers are remunerated on the SNCT scale and receive an additional 1% over and above this scale. Subject to satisfying eligibility criteria, the successful applicant will be automatically enrolled into the Scottish Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme, but will have the right to opt out. Daughters of staff who attend the school will be eligible for a 40% remission on school fees. St Margaret’s has an Employee Assistance Programme which offers free and confidential advice on both work and personal issues. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to teach a lesson, which will be observed. Responsibilities of the Teacher of Support for Learning To work with the Senior Leadership Team and Head of Support for Learning to provide an inclusive and appropriate education for pupils with additional learning needs. To encourage all members of staff to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to pupils with specific learning needs. To contribute to staff development on the most appropriate strategies, approaches and resources for pupils with additional learning needs. To work with the Head of Support for Learning to set up and regularly review systems for identifying, assessing and reviewing learning needs. To identify and implement the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with learning needs. To assist in preparing pupils for examinations and advise departments and staff on AAA arrangements in SQA examinations. To identify and teach skills that will develop pupils' ability to work independently. To identify smart targets for raising achievement and confidence among pupils with learning needs annually. To monitor individual pupils’ progress in relation to these targets with teachers. To implement the departmental policies and handbook guided by whole school policies, statutory obligations and national developments such as GIRFEC. To write reports. To maintain pupils' records. To liaise with form teachers, guidance staff and support for learning staff regarding the work of individual pupils. To liaise when necessary, with relevant external agencies and professionals. To keep parents informed about their child's progress on a regular basis. To meet with prospective pupils and parents as and when required, and to liaise with feeder schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when admitting pupils with learning needs. To provide in class support to pupils with additional support needs as and when required. To contribute to the development and implementation of the school’s Accessibility Strategy. To cover for colleagues as and when required. To participate in the school’s professional learning programme. To attend parents’ evenings and open days.
