Healthcare Assistant / Assistant Psychologist (Potential)

An opportunity has arisen for a potential position of Assistant Psychologist to join a well-established, independent mental health hospital on the North London/Herts border. You will be initially employed for 6 months in the capacity of Healthcare Assistant (HCA) in order to gain a thorough understanding of a whole team approach to care and treatment and detailed knowledge of our patient group prior to being considered for an Assistant Psychologist role.

In order to progress to the Assistant Psychologist role, you must have: BSc in Psychology +/- MSc in an appropriately aligned subject.

Upon successful completion of this 6-month period, the successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Psychologist under the supervision of one of our two in-house Clinical Psychologists.

Vision MH Ltd specialises in providing the highest quality of service to people with mental health problems. The hospital service has 31 in-patient beds, designated High Dependency/restricted access rehabilitation. We provide care and treatment for the full spectrum of mental health illness with all patients being funded by the NHS. As a Healthcare Assistant, your main duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

- Delivering a caring and effective, client focused service, in keeping with the aims, objectives and standards of the hospital
- Delivering sensitive and appropriate clinical care to meet individual’s needs, respecting personal dignity and beliefs
- Working closely with the nursing team
- To interact with patients in a natural manner which promotes there safety and dignity. This will include interacting within a therapeutic milieu as well as carrying out essential safety tasks.

To be considered for this position you must understand the need to work flexibly and creatively. In addition, you must possess the following key skills and experience. During your time with us you will need to demonstrate an aptitude for team working and develop a psychological understanding of patients. At the end of the 6 month period your performance and suitability for the role of full time Assistant Psychologist will be assessed- this will be dependent on your performance within the first 6 months and an evaluation by members of the MDT and the in-house clinical psychologist.

We deliver the following psycho-social interventions: Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT), DBT, individual and group CBT and Mindfulness.

This post is offering a salary of £18,749.00 per annum, pro rata, worked over a 2-week rolling pattern of 12.5-hour shifts, 3 days one week, 4 days the next. This pattern includes weekends, and please be aware that there will be a requirement to work occasional night shifts, currently set at 1 week in 5.
