Specialist Paramedic (Emergency Care)

Salary: £30,401-£37,267 (section 2)

Permanent positions x 10

37.5 hours per week,

Plus a percentage of unsocial hour’s payment dependant on rota and hours worked in line with Section 2 of Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the North East Ambulance Service to become a Specialist Paramedic (Emergency Care).The purpose of this new and exciting role within NEAS is to provide care to patients who are critically ill or injured, in order to achieve the best outcomes. This may require providing clinical intervention and resuscitation to prevent deterioration and promote recovery, through to in some cases facilitating a natural and dignified death. The Specialist Paramedic (Emergency Care) will also support the emergency operations centre function by having a 24/7 presence to support dispatch and provide remote clinical advice to operational teams.

The scope of a Specialist Paramedic (Emergency Care) will include advanced interventions and skill sets such as: second line treatment for asthma, second line treatment for seizures, sedation and surgical airways, advanced pain relief, cardioversion and cardiac pacing. One of the main qualities and requirements of a Specialist Paramedic (Emergency Care) is to bring seniority, critical decision making, leadership and support to the scene. We are delighted to announce this exciting opportunity for experienced professionally registered Paramedics to become Specialist Paramedic (Emergency Care). The Specialist Paramedic (Emergency Care) role is more than just operational in nature. It is integrated into all areas of the Trust and supports the delivery of training sessions, along with clinical advice whilst working on the Clinical Support Desk (CSD), located within the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

The selection process is rigorous. Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited for an assessment day that will include a written exam, a Physical Competency Assessment and work station scenarios. The written exam and practical assessments will be graded and this will determine who is successfully invited to an interview. An outline timetable of the process will be made available to successfully shortlisted candidates.
