Position: TECHNICAL MANAGER
Purpose of the role
Responsibility for technical aspects of the business, legislation, specifications and process including project management of modification to existing equipment and management of new equipment specification and installation.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Improve the reliability and performance of tooling through planned and reactive maintenance programmes and working in conjunction with the regional tooling manager.
* Support / work along the regional team in the design new products in accordance with customer requirements with a view to minimising unit production costs as well as initial investment.
* Understand customer’s use of product, including handling and filling conditions, and provide customer technical support as required.
* To support the quality department with the business response and problem-solving techniques that address customer concerns and complaints in a timely manner.
* Manage the optimisation of product specifications and the legislative requirement to minimise packaging, especially by weight.
* To follow closely developments in plastics processing and decoration technologies and polymers to ensure that the Company is aware of all opportunities.
* Assist production with process and operational challenges to ensure the business meets customer demand.
* Approve new suppliers and polymer grades and assist the manufacturing function in specifying processing equipment.
* To initiate, maintain and safeguard the Company’s intellectual property and liaise with Sales to ensure that all commercial aspects are covered.
* To communicate effectively with all other managers and departments of the business.
* Ensure that priorities are considered in relation to the local business needs and acted upon to optimise efficiencies and costs.
* To support continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency through the business.
* To effectively manage the resources in the department.
Person Specification
* Proven experience of working within an injection moulding production environment
* Degree level or equivalent in a science based subject
* Thorough understanding of polymer based materials and their processing
* Change and business improvement oriented
* Financial awareness
* Proven ability to lead, motivate and build teams at all levels.
* Excellent influencing, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Good presentation skills
* Demonstrate a desire to succeed and achieve results
* Knowledge of employment legislation, and Health, Safety and Environmental standards
* Proven negotiation skills
