Client

Our client is an US based aircraft manufacturer with MRO facilities at Luton and Farnborough Airports, they specialise in supporting business aircraft and offer exceptional standards of service. Due to expansion and relocation of their facilities they are currently looking to recruit a Senior Materials Manager. This role is considered to be a Senior position within the organisation with the requirement to travel internationally from time to time.

Main activities: Senior Materials Manager

Manages the inventory management of all related material functions including, but not limited to, inventory control, shipping, receiving, procurement, International Trade Compliance, contract management, repair control manager, shop floor control, purchasing, planning, quality, logistics, material planning and/or off-site functions for the UK site.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manages and implements integrated processes and procedures between cross-site/cross-functional areas to facilitate timely and consistent flow of materials/parts though the system.
  • Oversees material inventory to minimize the cost associated with excess, slow moving, and obsolete inventory, to include ensuring an accurate accountability of inventory. Identifies root causes for excess and inactive inventory and develops problem resolutions.
  • Develops and implements planning tools which project material requirements, identify critical path components, prevent future shortages, and alert the responsible planner of the need for corrective action.
  • Manages subordinate personnel and provides guidance and training to ensure skill sets, knowledge and educational capabilities meet position requirements.
  • Manages supply chain, material planning and procurement activities in support of manufacturing and service schedules.
  • Reviews manufacturing schedule changes, assesses impact, and implements appropriate actions.
  • Reviews industry technology trends; aggressively develop strategies, plans and schedules for process improvements and implementation of best practices to achieve cycle time and cost reductions.
  • Works effectively with functional management to balance resources (machinery and manpower/skills) to achieve goals and objectives at the least cost.
  • Coordinates delivery of off site facilities in support of manufacturing and/or service schedule.
  • Formulates and implements plans to develop, train, promote and recognize personnel skills and achievement.
  • Works effectively with functional management to balance resources (machinery and manpower/skills) to achieve goals and objectives at the least cost.
  • Manages department within budget; provides organizational resources and performance targets; ensures compliance
  • Identifies, promotes, and manages Lean initiatives and principles in support of manufacturing and operational objectives.
  • Represents department in ad hoc communication or process improvement meetings.


In addition

  • Manages department safety programs in compliance with safety regulations; conducts periodic safety audits.
Ideal candidate’s profile:

Certified in APICS (Just in Time, Production Activity Control, and Material Capacity Requirements Planning) preferred. Knowledge of governmental regulations and interpretations preferred. Ensures compliance with all corporate, federal, and international regulations, including but not limited to, FAA/EASA Regulations, Import/Export Compliance, Quality Control, Hazmat, Traffic/Material Handling Standards, and departmental procedures.

  • Demonstrated career progression within Supply Chain Management function (Procurement, Planning, Logistics, Warehousing or etc.)
  • Experience managing third-party warehouse and logistics providers (EMEA wide, contract/KPI negotiation, ongoing monitoring)
  • Aviation experience (AOG resolution/urgency, airworthiness documentation, EASA/FAA regulations, supplier relationships, etc.)
  • Familiar with Trade Compliance issues (experience with HMRC or other EU tax authorities, VAT/Duty management, red-flags)
  • Project Management experience (managed large complex/strategic projects or site moves)
  • Freight Management (EMEA wide, Next-flight out/small parcel, freight bill audit and pay, Hazmat awareness)
  • Strong analytical skill (excel/access)


Knowledge of international conversions of weight, measures, and monetary exchanges. Lean Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, KANBAN, Value Stream Mapping and Continuous Flow experience preferred.

HMRC import/export duties and taxes – experience/knowledge to allow proficient management
