As the Principal Cost Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a small team in providing estimates for product manufacturing and the necessary support activities from concept through development and industrialisation to aid a project team in bidding or in determining the price of product or service

Principal Cost Engineer Responsibilities

* Responsible for the analysis of product drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials and labour estimates to incorporate into Cost Brochure (including allowances).

* Consult with personnel in other departments (e.g. Projects, Design, Manufacturing, Purchasing) to discuss and formulate estimates, resolve issues and understand changes/adjustments to cost estimates.

* Agree target costs with Design and Industrial leads

* Develop and agree effective estimating synthetics

* Assess cost effectiveness of products or services, by tracking actual costs relative to bids as a project develops

* Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures with a focus on cost savings where possible.

Principal Cost Engineer skills and qualifications required:

* Ideally educated to HNC/HND standard or equivalent

* A strong background in engineering/manufacturing is essential.

* Experience of estimating/cost engineering.

* Relevant production life cycle experience is highly desirable.

* A sound appreciation of manufacturing processes is important.

* Able to communicate with all levels within the business both verbally and in writing.

* High level of influencing, negotiating and persuasiveness with the ability to adapt style in different situations.

* Highly developed planning and organisational skills with some experience/exposure to project management.

* Experience of managing/leading a small team is desirable but more important is the ability to motivate/inspire others.
