SEN Support Assistants

Reed Education
Bristol (City Centre)
16 Apr 2019
21 May 2019
Contract Type
Full Time
Reed Education Bristol are working with a specialist SEN provision that specifically work with children with Additional or Special Educational Needs (ALN/SEN), and also children who may have been through trauma or have Mental Health (MH) issues.

This school requires empathetic and consistent members of staff to provide these children with the care and support that they so desperately need, along with a disciplinarian who has clear boundaries and expectations for them. The children who the school work with can be difficult - they may display very challenging behaviour (mostly verbal, sometimes physical) but we need our Teachers and TA’s to know the behaviour isn't necessarily their fault, it’s their coping mechanism for communicating about how they feel inside. Understanding that, and not giving up on them at the first hurdle is absolutely paramount.

The school:
• Offers a huge curriculum – including all core subjects
• Encourages outdoor learning involving nature, being active and sports.
• Works at every stage of the social welfare cycle to build resilience and aspiration in people and the communities
• Supporting, educating, developing and enhancing young people’s minds and futures.

What you will need:
• Passion to make a difference for children who may have had very turbulent home lives.
• Ability to build self-esteem and confidence, tackle anxiety, depression and other medication related illnesses that has contributed to the needs they have today.
• Past experience in a similar role, as a youth worker or support staff. Retired military and special forces personnel experience is very beneficial.
• Experience of working with children/young people with learning difficulties and managing challenging behaviour.
• You will identify individual needs and provide effective support in a safe, stimulating and supportive environment.
• Good communication skills, patience and a sense of humour.
• Willingness to develop supportive relationships with students in order to improve levels or achievement.
• Emotionally intelligent, motivated, enthusiastic and positive.
• Committed to progress and well-being of young people.

If this sounds appealing to you, then you probably are exactly what I am looking for – as it won’t be for everyone. We can offer temp contracts and permanent roles, depending on what you are looking for. We offer free CPD – including Safeguarding, and also behaviour management programs such as Team Teach.

If you want more information please do let me know urgently as this client is desperate to recruit for additional staff due to the number of child referrals they are about to get. Get in touch today on the contact details below:
