Head of Licensing (Broadcasting)
We have some exciting opportunities within our Licensing team for three Heads of Licensing to work across our offices in Kings Cross and Streatham.
About the Role
The Licensing team at PRS for Music delivers revenue of c. £200m p.a. under licences which it negotiates with broadcasters and online service providers on behalf of its composer, songwriter and music publisher members. Our customers range from the major UK broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV and Sky, UK-based international broadcasters such as Discovery, Turner and Viacom, and many other smaller television channels. It is our job to ensure that our members - creators and owners of songs and compositions - are rewarded fairly whenever their music is used by our broadcaster customers.
We are looking for three Heads of Licensing to be responsible for commercial negotiations with all our broadcaster customers and to develop and drive the licensing team to ensure we maximise our revenues. Each role will have responsibility for a group of specific broadcasters to ensure there is a strong customer focus.
The ability to build strong relationships with our major broadcaster customers and having excellent negotiation skills are essential to be a success in the roles. The successful candidates will lead the negotiation process with key customers from beginning to end and oversee other negotiations. They will plan thoroughly ahead for the key negotiations; oversee the analysis needed to develop proposals and work with key members and the relevant committees to secure buy-in to the approach, as well as leading the negotiations.
The Heads of Licensing will recruit, develop and motivate people so that they deliver excellent service to our music-using customers whilst securing the best possible value for the use of our members’ music.
The Heads of Licensing will identify new opportunities for revenue growth, manage the development of new licensing schemes and ensure they are both fit for purpose in the market and operationally efficient. They will have full responsibility for budgets and revenue associated with their accounts and be able to report on this position at any time. They will also contribute to the annual budget setting process.
The roles will also support the Director of Licensing in the formulation and implementation of PRS for Music’s broadcast and online licensing strategy, working closely with internal stakeholders including the PRS for Music Licensing Committee and its advisory groups for whom they will prepare and present papers with confidence.
A capable and experienced commercially-focussed manager with the skills to lead high value, complex negotiations; an experienced people leader who is able to motivate, inspire and develop teams; a clear thinker with strong analytical and strategic skills with the ability to navigate thorough complex business issues and contribute pro-actively to our licensing strategy; an effective, persuasive and articulate communicator who is able to deal confidently with people at senior level both within and outside the organisation; personal drive, credibility and strong people management skills; the capability to build and nurture key relationships with industry stakeholders; strong presentational, influencing and commercial skills. Some knowledge of contractual/licensing matters is essential - although a legal qualification is not required.
