Production Manager

What is required is extensive experience in a process environment in the chemical industry, in particular chemical distillation experience.

Qualifications: Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related subject

Main Purpose of the Job

To be responsible to the Site Manager for:

o The safe and efficient operation of the plants, maximising yields and production rates;
o Compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental Regulations;
o Compliance with all relevant management systems procedures;
o The maintenance of an up-to-date Plant Training Manual and organisation of training for all production personnel in conjunction with the Group Leads.
o Driving improvements to the site through Continuous Improvement.
o Maximising output whilst operating within site production budgets

Duties/Responsibilities:
o To manage the operation of the West Yorkshire plants and the work of the production staff;
o To plan production schedules monthly/weekly/daily alongside the Planning & Scheduling Department, to generate production plans to meet customer demand whilst maintaining the site's own requirements.
o To effectively manage all areas of production.

o To implement new projects and arrange plant trials.
o To write Works Instructions in consultation and agreement with the Site Manager / Business Processes Manager/SHE Manager
o To prepare reports on plant performance as required by works Procedures.
o To assist in month end stock take alongside Planning & Scheduling and ensuring that stocks and stream costings reports are completed in a timely manner;
o To periodically review and appraise production staff and recommended actions/rewards and training from the review. Suitable training records to be maintained of all production staff.
o To be responsible for the motivation, performance and discipline of production staff within the guidelines of the company's rules and conditions of employment. To ensure that these are applied in a fair and consistent manner;
o To ensure that effective communication is maintained throughout the production department, and laterally with adjoining functions;
o Responsibility for ensuring adequate out-of-hours managerial and operational cover;
o To work with the Engineering Department to ensure that plant maintenance is carried out in a timely and efficient manner;
o To review process technology and make proposals to the Site Manager/Business Processes Manager/SHE Manager for improvements in production rates, environmental performance and quality;
o To contribute to all health & safety initiatives including safety/accident audits in line with the current legislative standards and codes of practice;
o To ensure production areas are operated in a manner conducive to good health, safety and environmental practices;
o To work with others to maintain the highest standards of safety housekeeping & hygiene;
o To ensure that the permit to work system is rigorously adhered to;
o Be an active member of all site teams embracing Hazid, Hazop, Risk Assessment, Management of Change, Safety Committee, etc.
o To explore opportunities for continuous improvement of the site to improve aspects of safety, environmental, cost and operational performance;
o To represent the site in group meetings as required;
o To ensure that all production staff are adequately trained and competent to perform their roles.
o To prepare reports on plant performance including production reports, trial reports, KPIs and stream costing reports ensuring that they are completed and distributed in a timely manner both internally and to external customers as required.
