ABPM as experts in recruitment are exclusively working an exciting and high growth privately owned engineering business. Having invested heavily in new systems and technologies the business is experiencing substantial growth both in its core UK markets and Internationally and with published spending plans across their specialist markets have clearly defined future growth plans.
The new key appointment they wish to make is a Commercial Controller working directly for the Managing Director and responsible for the commercial operations of the business.
You will be responsible for all commercial areas of the business. An experienced Finance Manager responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions and this role will work alongside the existing Finance Manager and support the other departments. Therefore, great communication skills are a pre-requisite together with the ability (and instinct) to determine when it is necessary to get in to the detail to fully understand the business issue and its commercial impact.
Key areas of the role will be:
Partner the bid teams in discussions with customers commercial and buying teams;
Review, comment on and assist in negotiations on commercial Terms and Conditions accompanying sales bid engineers at customer meetings and interfacing with our customers teams
Adopt a risk based approach, risk identification, pricing and management / mitigation
Partner to the Project Management and Engineering teams on commercial delivery and maximising of the financial performance on the project and being their "early warning" mechanism.
Expediting stage payments, project milestone invoicing, revenue recognition
Project financial performance; costs at complete updates and margin reviews; profit take assumptions and earned value analysis
Develop and implement a new Costing and Pricing system to facilitate better pricing and margin analysis.
We are looking for someone with a strong commercial focus who can carry this into our business to make a difference. You will need to be a self-starter and have the confidence and gravitas to make an impact by grasping an area but with the personality and empathy to gain the confidence and respect of our engineers and their teams "winning them over" and earning their support
Your experience will need to be underpinned by a strong financial background to give you the confidence to "get under the bonnet" of our costing / pricing system but then this needs to be alongside a commercial and practical application stepping out of the theory; with a true desire to understand the commercial drivers of our business.
In summary someone with the confidence to help the executive team shape the future direction of the business being their commercial partner as we expand; helping to control our current phase, manage risks and just as importantly become a true partner in the shaping of the business as it continues through its exciting period of further growth.
