This post will have both a management and technical role with the three teams in the service within the following areas:

  • Application Development, both Web and Client based
  • Intranet and Internet Web Development
  • SQL Server Estate Administration
  • Interface Messaging Management and Development
  • Data Warehousing
  • Data Quality
  • Provide line management of DBMS team
  • Application Development Team Leader and Data Quality Team Leader
  • Provide technical expertise and support for the day to day functions of the DBMS team; including integration, data warehousing and database administration
  • Possess technical awareness of the development tools and processes used in the development teams
  • Provide on-call rota support within the DBMS team to their systems; primarily integration and database administration

Knowledge and Skills


  • Specialist knowledge of SQL Server management and optimum server operation on MS SQL Server versions 2008R2, 2012 and 2016
  • Experience of clustering and blade technologies, mirroring, log shipping, and replication
  • Knowledge of the SQL language
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Data Tools / SSIS for creating ETL processes
  • Knowledge of installing and configuring SSAS and SSRS would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of application development cycle using predominantly NET technologies.  Knowledge of PHP, MySQL, WordPress, Linux & Windows Web Hosting Servers


  • Team management and development skills
  • Technical skills to manage, develop and optimise the SQL Server environment
  • Capability of delivering database related projects on time, to an agreed quality and budget – budget management
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively
  • The intellectual ability to deal with complex problems; independently analyse information and make recommendations for an optimum way forward from a range of options
  • The ability to communicate effectively with non-technical users with varying levels of IT literacy and understanding


  • Experience of working in a complex technical environment, such as high availability servers support 7000 users.
  • Experience of working in a service delivery or management area.
  • Experience in health service or other major large-scale customer service oriented organisation in a management role
