Your new company

Hays Education are currently working in partnership with a school situated in Central Birmingham to recruit a reliable and committed Teaching Assistant who is able to support a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This mainstream school are a school which cater to a range of pupils across KS1-KS2. Your new role

This Teaching Assistant role involves advancing pupil's learning in a range of classroom settings, including 1:1 support, small group work and the whole class support alongside the teacher. If successful you will be working in a KS2 class supporting a pupil with Autism, as well as other General Teaching assistant duties. This pupil can often struggle socially and emotionally within school so would benefit from a committed and reliable person to support them. This role is a long term role at present but a permanent role could be considered for outstanding candidates.

What you'll need to succeed

The ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child development, appropriate levels of childcare including experience of working with pupils with lower ability. Knowing how to raise pupils learning levels is advantageous however a confident and positive approach to behaviour management and ability to plan, organise and use own initiative is essential. You must be familiar with school curriculum and age-related expectations of pupils, examination frameworks and teaching methods. It is essential that you understand the importance of working collaboratively with the teaching team to support the curriculum, and be able to monitor pupil's participation and progress and provide feedback as appropriate.
