Connex Education are currently working exclusively with a company who are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant. The alternative provider of education deliver academic and vocational training programmes for young people, who are not suited to mainstream education. Working as a Teaching Assistant you will work as part of a small team delivering tailored learning programmes to a small cohort of students. The Teaching Assistants deliver Maths and English, vocational and enrichment elements to help thier students prepare for independence, and work experience.

Duties as a Teaching Assistant

* Support our Tutor to deliver English, Maths and ICT Functional Skills, GCSE English and Maths resits, and a vocational subject over four teaching days.

* Use one day to support the new Placement and Progression Officer to plan and deliver employability workshops, support guest speakers and provide enrichment activities

* Provide support to learners on a one-to-one basis and in small groups

* Contribute to regular student reviews, using this and any other opportunity to build up our students’ self-belief and confidence, and to celebrating their successes or learn from any mistakes they may have made along the way.

Desirable Skills and Experience

* A Teaching Assistant qualification at Level 2 or above, or a commitment to obtaining this qualification

* Level 2 qualifications in English and maths, or a commitment to obtaining this qualification

* Knowledge of the statutory requirements of equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, SEN & safeguarding of children

* High expectations of pupils’ behaviour and clear strategies for working with challenging pupils

* Ability to motivate and encourage children appropriately

* Have experience of teaching children with EAL, SEN, Speech and language difficulties and other complex needs

* Ability to work independently, supported by the teacher, with groups of or individual pupilsA willingness to respond flexibly to the needs of a small team

* Have experience of teaching in an alternative provision environment

Essential personal qualities

* The ability to develop and maintain good professional relationships

* Good communication skills and able to clarify and explain instructions clearly

* Be committed and be able to actively demonstrate safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

* Ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations
