Underwriter / Account Manager
Location: Great Billing, Northampton, NN3 9EX.
Salary: Competitive, DOE.
Contract: 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday with Saturday working on a Rota Basis, time in lieu provided.

Billing Finance are a privately - run family owned vehicle finance company founded in 1983, based in and named after Great Billing, Northampton. We offer hire purchase agreements to consumers throughout the UK. We focus on customers with non-standard credit profiles that may not fit the automated underwriting processes of other lenders. We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Due to continued growth, we are currently recruiting for an experienced Underwriter / Account Manager to join our ever-growing team.
About the role
This role is responsible for manually underwriting proposals sent through via brokers across the UK before reverting back with a decision within an agreed SLA. The role will also act as an Account Manager for our brokers to ensure a positive and professional relationship is maintained via email and telephone.
Role Responsibilities
• Underwrite new proposals received from referring brokers in a timely manner and ensuring that all decisions made satisfy the companies underwriting guidelines and lending criteria.
• Assessing bank statements to ensure that customers meet the income requirements in accordance with our guidelines.
• Calculate a customer’s outgoings from credit search in accordance with our affordability criteria.
• Dealing with vehicle requests from brokers and responding with valuations and terms in accordance with our underwriting guidelines.
• Being able to prioritise your work load to ensure that our service levels for brokers are met.
• Carry out the first check of a payout to ensure that all paperwork required has been received and the income requirements have been met.
• Check and sign off proof of identity in accordance with our guidelines.
• Issue finance documents in accordance with our guidelines and as requested by brokers.
• Maintain and develop the relationship with specific brokers by managing their expectations and improving our services where possible.
• Provide regular updates to their specific broker accounts including management information that can help to improve conversion rates.
• Review decisions on proposals that are appealed by brokers or customers.
• Make decisions on term and asset queries that fall slightly outside standard criteria.
• Feed ideas to New Business Operations Manager with a view to improve efficiencies and achieve best practice.
• Ensure that the Underwriter Mailbox is always being dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
• Co-ordinate IT testing when required.
• Produce management information reports as and when requested by the New Business Operations Manager or Sales Director.
Required Skills and Experience
• At least 1 year’s manual underwriting experience
• Experience of working with Experian would be advantageous, but not essential
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Ability to prioritise work effectively
