A Secondary School in Bradford, with a reputation of supporting and building its staff, are actively looking for an EBD TA to support a small classroom of pupils. The school caters for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs and challenging behaviour, who struggle to access mainstream education. This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring the children are kept on task, learning to their full capability, and have a point of contact for any issues or concerns.

You will be working alongside the class teacher, other BSWs, and school support staff. The children have a range of needs and can express difficult and challenging behaviour, requiring the applicant to have patience and the ability to think on their feet to provide them with the support they need. This is a long term position, with the potential to extend into a permanent role.

Your role will include:

Establishing constructive relationships with students

Following the positive behaviour plans for each individual child

Supporting the class teacher and other BSWs to maintain a positive working environment

Developing a clear understanding of the specific needs of each pupil

Looking after children’s physical, emotional and social welfare

Recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and de-escalating crisis situations to the best of your ability

Maintaining a record and providing regular feedback to teachers and/or SENCO in order to best track pupils' progress

Assisting the school in communicating with parents and carers, using the appropriate approach

Supporting all learners in their curriculum studies and throughout the day

Key requirements:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

A commitment to and passion for working with vulnerable children

Experience working in a SEND setting

KS2/KS3/KS4 curriculum experience (ideal)

Experience working or volunteering with children

The ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour

The ability to work with learners with various difficulties

A flexible approach to educating and supporting children

Team teach certification (ideal)

Experience as a SEN teaching assistant or BSW (ideal)
