Reed Education Bristol are currently working with an exciting SEN school who are looking for a long term Science Teacher post Easter, to start on the 23rd April 2019. This could potentially turn into a permanent role!

With extensive experience of delivering services to children and young people who have experienced difficulties in mainstream schools and whose education has irretrievably broken down, this school support learners to achieve academic and vocational targets and progress into education, training and employment. This approach delivers significant long-term benefits to learners, parents and carers, communities and local authorities.
The post itself will involve teaching GCSE Science potentially across 3 different provisions in Chippenham, Trowbridge and Midsomer Norton and so you have to be able to drive to be asked to interview stage. Children who attend these provisions mostly are part of a 12 week ‘turn around program’ which will enable them to reintegrate into mainstream schooling after the 3 months. All mileage is paid out weekly at 40p per mile.
Teaching and learning duties:

This role will require a Teacher who has a nurturing and empathetic caring side, but who can also be authoritive and lay out some very clear boundaries, rewards, and consequences for behaviour. Children here can sometimes be troubled socially and emotionally, and so can often be challenging for staff verbally. There is very little history at these sites for children getting physical towards staff. You will have a robust and positive outlook, a ‘never give up attitude’, and the belief that every child matters. A great position for someone who really wants to make a difference.

Other duties:

Act as role model; champion the schools ETHOS and the Education directorate’s vision and values; comply with school policies and procedures including safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality; undertake personal and professional development activities and liaise with other staff so knowledge and best practice can be shared.

QTS or other teaching qualifications or a degree in Science. You must have experience of working with our cohort of young people including those with complex, high behaviour and additional learning needs. You will also require extensive behaviour management experience with students who have complex needs and extreme behaviour.
