We are looking for graduates who would like to train as teachers in the post 16 sector whilst working as a teaching assistant. This unique opportunity provides graduates with hands on training which enables them to work alongside experienced teachers, gaining knowledge whilst developing their own skills.

You will earn minimum wage according to your age and work term time only on a temporary contract (2 years). The position of trainee teacher is a dual role. Whilst being employed as a teaching assistant, the College will provide opportunities to gain a teaching qualification. To achieve this, the teaching assistant must enrol on the Diploma in Education and Training (DET). The programme is delivered through association with Canterbury Christ Church University at Bexhill College on a Monday evening.

Key experience essential for the role:

• Educated to at least level 4/degree level in area relevant to the college curriculum offer
• Confidence to supervise a class independently
• Be First Aid qualified or willing to train
• Commitment to education and the value of learning

Key Responsibilities:-

• Actively contributing to the planning and delivery of educational work programmes for individuals, groups and whole classes as appropriate
• Assess student work and contribution to reports if required
• Prepare appropriate teaching and learning resources for 1:1s, group work and lessons
• Develop subject knowledge and teaching skills
• Assisting with the management of general learning support needs presented by students
• Attend Section, subject and College meetings in order to fulfil the role
• Performing administrative duties relating to the area of responsibility including the completion and monitoring of Individual Learning Plans
• Act as cover supervisor for classes in the absence of the teacher

If you are successful, you will be required to possess an enhanced DBS certificate to be employed at the College.
