The British Basketball League (BBL) has a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Communications to join its team in Leicester. The league has been at the pinnacle of British Basketball since its inception in 1987 and represents the highest level of the professional game in the UK. It has a colourful 30+ year history including some classic matches, memorable moments and unforgettable players and coaches.

This is a new role following an extensive review with the BBL investing in a new marketing strategy designed to further drive the sport forward! You will primarily be using Marketing tools to grow and develop the sport, by increasing tickets sales at major events and club games as well as broadcast views and wider public awareness.

As Head of Communications, your daily duties will include:

* Taking ownership of all BBL communication channels including our social media, website, broadcast, media relations, event literature and direct mail.

* Creating and delivering marketing activity that will lead to the growth and development of the BBL including increased media profile, ticket sales, commercial partnerships and public awareness.

* Managing the department and supporting the ongoing professional development of the new team

* Driving innovation and creating excellence to deliver market-leading activity and genuine return on investment across all channels.

* Developing and delivering marketing plans to maximise attendance at the BBL’s major events including the BBL Championship (O2, London); BBL Cup (Arena Birmingham); and BBL Trophy (Emirates Arena, Glasgow).

* Working with mainstream and specialist media across digital and traditional channels, to maximise profile for the BBL and enhance its reputation.

* Liaising with and reporting to the BBL board and its member clubs on the central communication strategy and programme delivery, including measurement against agreed KPIs.

* Providing guidance and support to BBL member clubs on communication matters.

* Leading on all matters regarding the BBL’s external reputation, including crisis management.

* Developing and delivering integrated campaigns across all communication channels.

* Liaising with key stakeholders to deliver persuasive arguments around our messaging.

* Creating new ideas and concepts in order to achieve specific marketing objectives.

* Creating presentations that communicate our key messages and concepts.

* Liaising with our broadcast rights and commercial consultants, supporting their work as required.

To be a successful Head of Communications, you will have the following skills and experiences:

* Excelling in all aspects of communication, whether developing strategies and key messages, or delivering activity

* Exceptional social media skills including the use and effective evaluation of paid promotions and strong planning and production.

* A good understanding of broadcast, digital and media opportunities, coupled with demonstrable media relations skills.

* Effective networking skills with the ability to develop contacts.

* Strong copywriting skills with the ability to write in a number of different styles.

* Good knowledge of all social media platforms, wider digital marketing, and a commitment to remain up to date with emerging technologies.

* Previous experience in similar role at a management level.

* Previous experience in managing others with a proven track record in getting the best from them.

The majority of our matches take place at weekends and you must be fully committed to work out of hours to supervise match related activity and to travel to matches and events as required.

In return for this Head of Communications role, you will receive a salary of up to £40,000 per annum.
