UK&I GL Manager

My client, a multinational coffee house, is looking for a UK & Ireland GL Manager to join their team in Luton on an initial 12 month contract. The UK & Ireland GL Manager position is an important role in the finance team who works closely with the UKI Business Unit Controller to deliver:

* The day to day management of the entire month end control and reporting process for the UK & Ireland Business Unit. This includes the timely and accurate delivery of a suite of management reports encompassing all aspects of a rapidly growing, multi channel and genuinely global business.

* The completion of the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process and quarterly financial control submission which is audited by both internal and external audit partners

* The accurate and timely management accounting required to enable completion of store P&L's across the entire estate each and every month

* The accurate and timely completion of landlord turnover rent certificates in line with the terms as detailed within the lease agreement

* Day to day communication with 3rd party service providers; Gerald Eve (Property costs) and Bellrock (Repairs & Maintenance)

* Management of a team of three including one school leaver on the Finance School Leaver Recruitment Scheme

The GL Manager should have the confidence and initiative to proactively challenge current process to help the UK&I BU Controller deliver a more efficient and effective control framework.

Who Are the Customers?

The UK&I BU Controller, the overall BU Controller, Financial Controller, UK&I Finance Director and retail finance team, store managers, AMs, RODs and third party partners.

Scale & Authority

Financial: 1400+ equity stores, 800+ Individual Franchise stores, 300+ Corporate Franchise stores and total divisional sales of c. £970m

People: 3 direct reports


* Ensure accurate and timely completion of Month end control and reporting process

* Ensure the integrity and standard of financial reporting and quarterly FCF submission to group

* Monthly balance sheet reconciliation process

* Turnover rent certificates in line with the terms as detailed within the lease agreement

* Fund requests for Rates and Rent payments

* Team management

* Supporting our operational teams.

* Excellent relationships with outsourced partners




* Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) with at least 1yr industry experience


* Recent exposure to IFRS and accounting standards

* Navision (MS Dynamics)/ Hyperion knowledge



* Strong PC and Excel skills

* Attention to detail

* Ability to prioritise workload, especially under time pressure and meeting all deadlines

* Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate with all levels, both financial and non-financial


* Ability to absorb additional ad-hoc tasks

* Process driven approach to financial control

* Positive attitude to change



* Experience of working in a UK reporting and control team

* Experience of performing balance sheet reconciliations and monthly reporting to a high standard


* Managing a team

* Experience of reporting and control in a multi-site retail business

* Commercial finance experience supporting an operational director or business unit.
