ASIC Design Engineer

Location: Cambridge

Salary: Negotiable

Due to expansion, my Cambridge based clients are currently recruiting a number of exciting opportunities within Electrical Engineering. It is imperative that candidates are passionate about working with a dynamic, innovative and fast developing business, therefore they need to be curious and passionate people who really do want to make a difference.

My client requires an innovative ASIC engineer to design and implement block and chip level digital designs for our mixed-signal and RF integrated circuits using unique flexible technology. As part of the expanding R&D team, the successful candidate will develop a variety of new circuits and perform evaluations of the fabricated flexible ICs in the lab, working alongside colleagues from all across the company.

Key tasks:

* Digital VLSI design and physical implementation:

* Concept and feasibility study

* Design of Verilog RTL blocks

* Synthesis

* Floor planning, place and route

* Timing closure

* Insertion of DFT test structures

* Design verification

* Product design documentation:

* Document all relevant product and design information to educate others on novel techniques and guidance on product usage

* Product characterisation:

* Evaluation of designs in test labs

* Define, conduct and analyse data from product performance characterisation

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications: establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices and participating in professional societies.

Qualifications and training:

* Masters / PhD in Electronics or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)

Skills and experience:

* Knowledge or experience with digital design tools; simulation, synthesis, floor planning, place & route, clock tree synthesis, parasitic extraction, static timing analysis, timing closure, physical verification, power analysis, formal verification, ATPG insertion / pattern generation

* Able to specify, set-up and maintain the digital design flow (an advantage)

* IC full custom design experience (Schematic capture, layout editor, SPICE simulation) an advantage

* Strong scripting ability (Unix/Linux, sh, tcl, perl, C, etc)

* A team player with good communication skills, experience in report writing (latex) and technical presentations

* Ability to work independently

* A desire to work in a small but commercially orientated company

* Willingness to work under pressure to tight deadlines
