This Lead Systems Engineering vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for an individual to develop and grow into a pivotal post at Leonardo. The successful candidate will be involved in a technology insertion project providing Thermal Imaging Guidance capability for the AV-8b Harrier aircraft, but using modern up-to-date electronics.

They shall be experienced in all aspects of the Systems Engineering lifecycle from Requirements engineering through to Qualification and Integration support and will involve frequent and effective multi-functional interaction and communication i.e. Electronics, Hardware, Mechanical, Software.

Key Responsibility Areas

* All Systems Engineering aspects of new and existing Electro Optical Systems, leading work at all phases of the development lifecycle.

* Development of Systems Engineering Development Plans.

* Technical leadership and development of Systems Engineering teams. Supporting the development of current and future Systems architectures/designs (including Systems of Systems) and their implementation.

* Robust capture and review of design artefacts as appropriate for all stages in the engineering lifecycle appropriate for managing existing systems and for taking concepts through to production.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required


* Extensive experience of the Systems Engineering lifecycle, from development and management of requirements (preferably using DOORS) through to acceptance testing.

* Previous experience working with Electro-Optical Systems, CCTV/thermal imaging/Range Finding.

* Previous experience working on platform integration systems (e.g. aircraft).

* Awareness of Functional analysis and Specification development.

* Familiarity with the creation, management and dissemination of Product Breakdown Structures (PBS) and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).

* The ability to work with other Engineering disciplines and external suppliers/customers.

* Conducting, analysing and reporting of qualification testing to support design certification.

* Working knowledge of DOORS for requirements management.


* Experience working on Bids & Proposals and knowledge of military and international specifications and standards is highly desirable.

* Experience of Model Driven Engineering approaches (eg Rhapsody, Matlab, Simulink) would also be an advantage.

* Experience mentoring and coaching of others
