What makes this role stand out?
This company works with many of the UK’s most innovative companies, helping them to maximise their government funding opportunities. Their goal is to become the number one provider in the software space, and so they are expanding their development team. This rapid growth has created a greater need for technology development in the business and for someone excited about getting involved in all aspects of running and improving the companies technology infrastructure.
Few companies come close to the perks on offer here, which includes flexible hours and a remote working culture - not to mention up to 6 weeks of holiday allowance! They have a genuinely unique and well-established working ethos which forms the foundation for the entire business. This encompasses investment in staff's development/training, flat management and a completely open culture (including transparency on salaries/accounts etc). Alongside these benefits, you’ll also get access to the company Share Incentive Plan (SIP), and lots of other additional nice to have perks – work/life balance is at the heart of the everything they do.
Where is this role going to take you?
As a Software Engineer, you’ll dive into the codebase of their core internal systems and help adapt these systems to the changing needs of the business. You’ll be supported by an existing development team of three as well as working closely with the operations team to make decisions on design and implement tools that will increase their productivity.
On a typical day, you might:
* Write and deploy a selected feature request.
* Talk to a colleague about their recently submitted feature request, work out if the solution presented is the most optimal and effective solution for their problems, then implement and deploy a solution.
* Receive a bug report marked as critical for a tool that has been failing since the last commit, you fix the bug right away.
* Define SQL queries to help the team build reports and identify their work blockers.
* Help a non-technical colleague understand the technologies in a client’s R&D claim.
The ideal experience (not all essential):
* You’re enthusiastic and able to work autonomously.
* Solid experience developing in JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS, and SQL.
* You know how to deploy to Linux (Shell scripting, Git, etc are all a plus).
* You have independently developed and taken solutions from concept to deployment.
* You’re motivated and willing to learn about and contribute to the wider business.
