Specialist Occupational Therapist
Outstanding facilities, expert supervision, highly skilled and committed professionals: just three of the many reasons to join our Clinical Services team.
As an Occupational Therapist, you can play your part in changing young lives for the better. You’ll join a committed team working with children with SEMH, ASD, and ADHD It’s challenging work, but there’s no doubt the rewards are worth it. You’ll see young people progress and achieve day by day, and help them to build a brighter future.
Dovetree School is our brand new school catering for up to 50 boys and girls, aged between 8 and 18. Like all of our schools, Dovetree offers state of the art learning resources and well equipped environments. Our onsite Vocational Centre gives students the opportunity to develop skills and hands on experience in a variety of subjects, such as Construction, Hair & Beauty and Motor Vehicle. Our young people are supported in small class sizes, by well qualified and experienced staff, to help them realise their full potential.
Working in this new school, you’ll be an important member of the multi-disciplinary team. Your work will fall into two key areas: assessing children’s skills and delivering OT services. It’s a fantastic opportunity to watch each child learn and progress with your on-going expert support. If you want a rewarding role, there’s no better place to be.
Day-to-day, you’ll evaluate the motor, sensory and perceptual skills of the young people in our care, and consider the impact of any difficulties on activities of daily living. Following assessment, you’ll work directly with children, both in groups and one-to-one, as well as recommending appropriate equipment and strategies. You’ll also have a role in supporting teaching and care staff, through the provision of training, to enable them to best meet the needs of the young people. You must have experience of a range of standardised and non-standardised assessments and the ability to create bespoke programmes to meet the needs of each individual that allow you to monitor changes. Your excellent reports will help us keep the local authority informed of each child’s progress.
You need to be a good communicator who is resilient and has the ability to handle challenging behaviour in order to create the best possible outcomes for our children. In return, you’ll get regular supervision, a strong support network and paidschool holidays.
Pay Scale is equivalent to NHS band 6 with full paid school holidays,
Qualified and HCPC-registered, you’ve worked with children with SEMH needs. You will have a working knowledge of Autism and ADHD. Knowledge of, or an interest in, Ayres’ Sensory Integration would be useful. Your expertise should come with good organisational skills and strong initiative: you must be able to work independently as well as within a team.
For children with complex, challenging needs, the level of care and education must go above and beyond. That’s what drives us, here at Witherslack Group. With our high staff-to-child ratios and in-house clinical teams, we’re proud to have won a reputation for excellence. Our aspirational homes, schools and ethos help us achieve the best possible outcomes.
