About the department:

The schools Geography department currently has five full-time teachers and one part-time teacher. The Geography department is well resourced with ICT provision and teaching materials. Each room has a desktop computer for the member of staff, an interactive whiteboard, internet access and speakers.

The department meets weekly to discuss planning and sharing ideas. Geography is increasingly becoming a very popular option for Sixth form. GCSE sets are taught by one member of staff for the two-year course. Geography is compulsory for Key Stage 3.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach Geography throughout the school and have the ability to contribute at A Level or IB is essential with the possibility of contributing to Oxbridge preparation.

The Head of Department is active in the promotion of Geography, both within the school and to prospect pupils and feeder schools.

The role:

1. To fulfil teaching requirements as directed by the Head of Department from Year 7 – Year 13.

2. To offer support to the leaning, pastoral and co-curricular needs of the individual students.

3. The teaching week currently consists of 37 periods of 40-minute lessons from Monday to Saturday lunchtime, together with games on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons. (normally teaching load for a teacher is around 26 periods per week.

Person Specification

* A good honours degree in Geography or related subject is essential

* Hold a Teaching Qualification (QTS/DFE/PGCE)

* Experience of teaching Geography successfully up to and including A Level

* Experience of working as a form tutor or similar pastoral role

* Experience managing a department

* Have excellent subject knowledge and passion for your subject

* Outstanding communication skills
