Machine Shop Manager

We are looking for a Machine Shop Manager to play a key role in managing all Machine Shop activities for a company that do all their design and manufacturing on site. They produce high-quality precision machined parts working out of a state-of-the-art machine shop. They’re a well-established engineering organisation that design and manufacture a wide range of scientific instrumentation used across the world.

This role will not require any hands-on machining, the main purpose of the role will be to oversee, supervise and coordinate a team of 18 engineers with a range of experience and as the manager you will look to improve production methods and implement changes to increase the efficiency of the machine shop. You will also need to manage daily work schedules and implement KPI’s

The Machine shop team is made up of two shifts which are 6am – 2pm & 2pm – 10pm, each has a shift leader who you will directly manage, the Machine Shop Managers working hours can be flexible and managed as to what you see fit. They will require a strong manager with experience operating manual and CNC machine tools including programming, you will need to understand and interpret engineering diagrams and identify potential issues and act appropriately.

Responsibility’s may include

- Monitor budget & machining times for machined components.
- Interpret specifications and drawings and assigns duties and materials.
- Work with the planning department to agree and deliver weekly machining schedules.
- Understand fundamentals of an MRP/ERP software systems.

Minimum Experience.

- 5 years of recent history managing Machine shop activities with CNC milling and turning machine centres
- Experience of supervising staff in a multi shift machine shop environment.
- Experience operating manual and CNC machine tools including setups and programming.
- Hands on experience driving continuous improvement initiatives.
