We’re looking for an experienced Finance Manager to join a fantastic company based in Luton.

The successful candidate will be joining a friendly team of 3, based within their head office. You will have overall responsibility for the efficient running of the accounting function for the business, liaising directly with and supporting the Directors of the company.

This is an excellent opportunity, working within a supportive and family-feel environment, in lovely offices. You will need to be a personable and confident communicator with a flexible approach - happy to help out with more menial tasks alongside senior level responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Management Accounts

  • Monthly variance review of Sales from Sage to Prima, investigating discrepancies
  • Post monthly journals applicable to role including recharges, salaries, stock costs, carrier bags, turnover rent
  • Detailed review of the monthly management accounts investigating discrepancies
  • Preparing detailed monthly financial statements, to include profit and loss accounts, balance sheet, variance analysis and commentaries, within 10 working days of month end
  • Present finance summary at the bi-monthly board meetings

Budgets & Forecasting

  • Preparing detailed annual, quarterly and monthly profit forecasts
  • Implementing and monitoring processes and procedures for the creation of monthly forecasts

Accounts Receivable & Bank Reconciliations

  • Download all relevant banking statements and reconcile against company bank account
  • Clear all payments received against each customer and chase any overdue accounts


  • Review cash position weekly & finalise monthly cash flow prepared by Accounts Assistant with budget & other ad-hoc income/payments


  • Act as cover for payroll and assisting on a monthly basis where possible

Regulatory including audit

  • Preparation of year-end file for Independent Accountants to produce yearly financial statements for HM Revenue & Customs and Companies House purposes
  • Set up processes for documenting returns and financial reports (including ONS returns)

Day to day duties/Ad-hoc

  • Assisting rest of finance team with AR, AP & other related tasks including reconciliations, posting invoices, sales & journals
  • Offering professional judgement on financial matters
  • Sign off POs related to online department where budgeted
  • Sign off payments related to standard business operation
  • Carrying out any necessary research, analysing it and concluding on the information
  • Provide necessary management information to assist decision makers within the company
  • Liaising with other managers to put the finance view in context
  • Any other projects/duties of a financial matter that occur from time to time

  • Safeguarding tangible and intangible assets
  • Continuous review & robustness of procedures

What the client are looking for:

  • CIMA or ACCA qualified - essential
  • At least 5+ years within a similar position
  • A background within the retail industry would be advantageous
  • Excellent, confident communication skills
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to be discreet and professional at all times
  • A team player who can upskill other team members
  • Ability to explain complex financial information in a clear way
