The Trust serves a population of over 330,000 across south west Surrey. We are a specialist tertiary cancer centre, offering state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services to a population of up to two million.

A regional cancer centre for Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire, it is also a tertiary specialist centre for ENT and Maxillofacial surgery. It attracts referrals from across the whole country for other specialties (i.e. urology). The Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (key-hole surgery) is one of only three such training units in the UK.
The Trust has strong links with the nearby University of Surrey and staff are well supported if they wish to undertake further study. As well as this, staff are able to develop and enhance skills and knowledge by undertaking post-qualification support and training at the hospital’s dedicated Education Centre. Applications are invited for Acute Physicians, to join the existing team in our Emergency Assessment Unit at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, who provide acute and emergency care for medical patients accessing the Trust.
We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to join the department of acute medicine and drive service improvements in this department. This post is one of two new substantive consultant positions due to the expansion of services at the front door. There is recognition of the importance and value of having appropriately trained acute physicians to lead these services and address the increasing challenges facing the NHS and emergency services. As such we are offering a financial Recruitment and Retainer incentive which is in addition to the consultant salary scale and in proportion to the number of DCCs worked in EAU (subject to terms and conditions).

Our vision is to provide excellent consultant led care for our patients from the moment they arrive, and to ensure rapid access to the right service at the right time, as well as maximising opportunities for ambulatory care and early discharge. In addition, the successful candidate(s) will have a pivotal role in junior doctor education and training. The Trust Board is committed to significant investment in urgent care, including medical pathways. Acute medical admissions are managed in a 36 bedded purpose built emergency assessment unit accommodating emergency medical and surgical admissions which includes a hot lab for urgent investigations.
Possession of MRCP or equivalent qualification is essential and applicants must be holders of a CCT in acute medicine with a sub specialty or be within six months of obtaining such a CCT. Applicants with a CCT in G(I)M or related specialty will also be considered.
