We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the department at York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Urology Specialty Doctor on a 1 in 4 rota.
The postholder will work alongside our recently expanded Consultant team and will be based at York Hospital. For one day per week, the successful applicant will work in a purpose-built newly equipped diagnostic urology unit based in Malton Hospital (30 minutes’ drive from York). The creation of this unit has allowed considerable flexibility in our provision of outpatient services, special interest clinics and the expansion of our 'one stop' services.
Surgically, the successful candidate will be exposed to open and laparoscopic upper tract surgery, PCNL, open pelvic surgery, endo-urology and continence surgery. There will be opportunity to undertake independent operating (dependent on experience).
The successful candidate will join the current team of 8 Consultants, 1 Specialty Doctor, 2 Specialist Registrars, 2 Junior Doctors and 6 Nurse Specialists.
Applicants should possess full GMC registration, hold a current license to practice, MRCS (or equivalent) and have worked at Specialty Trainee (ST3+) or Staff Grade level - ideally within urology.

Duties will include:
- Sharing responsibility for patients under the care of his/her supervisory consultants
- Accompanying Consultants on ward rounds and will be expected to take part in post take ward rounds with the on call Consultant and communicate effectively in handover to other staff
- Sending discharge summaries to the GP and liaising appropriately with other professionals
- Participating in the middle grade on-call rota.
- Attending operating theatre sessions, outpatient clinics or other clinical areas as appropriate, with support from the Consultant body.
- Providing immediate supervision and support to doctors at F1/F2/CT/STR levels.
- Actively participating in Clinical Governance, Clinical Audit and Medical Education including teaching and case presentation at departmental meetings.
Whilst the posts available do not form part of the formal training programme, we endeavour to offer post holders the same training and educational opportunities as colleagues in training, including paid study leave. You will be provided with clinical and educational supervision, to enable your personal and portfolio development.
