Staff Nurse - Band 5 Surgical Assessment Unit
Experienced or Newly Qualified Nurse? We have opportunities for Staff Nurses to join our team on the Surgical Assessment Unit within our busy acute hospital.
The Surgical Assessment Unit is a fast paced acute surgical unit caring for acute admissions within the General Surgical, Urology, ENT and other surgical specialties. We admit patients directly from GPs, acute Clinics, the X-ray and Emergency Departments.
We also are one of the first hospitals to develop an acute emergency surgical ambulatory care clinic which is held on the SAU (ESAC). You will build your experience of surgical conditions quickly and there is much experience within the unit to help and support you while you learn.
You will be rotated around the different areas within the unit to experience all aspects of nursing within an acute surgical unit.
The team structure brings together a wide range of experience including Surgical Nurse Practitioners, Senior Sister, an extended nursing team including Band 6’s and band 5s and a group of unregistered nurses that are a range of B2 and B4 Assistant Practitioner roles. As a Band 5 nurse you will be responsible for the care of a group of acutely unwell or undiagnosed patients. This will include assessment, planning and implementation of care working within the multidisciplinary team. The unit is also awaiting an exciting new opportunity in spring 2018 when there will be a complete refit of the existing clinical area - building a brand new purpose built unit for you to work in – what an exciting opportunity!
If you are passionate about delivering the highest standards of care for your patients and you enjoy the challenge of working in an environment where every day is different, you will enjoy SAU. You’ll need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly build a rapport with patients and families and an adaptable approach to your work with an attention to detail.
