The Role:

A new role has arisen in our rapidly growing business in Lincoln, for a 3rd line engineer within our IT team. Responsible for all elements of information systems and services: infrastructure, communications, collaboration, enabling services, information assurance and various customer-facing services.

Hands-on and focusing on both infrastructure and customer facing systems, you will work closely with all elements of the business but primarily with our Mission Systems team, in a dynamic and fast paced environment. They produce some of the most innovative and highly-regarded Mission Systems for the air environment available today. Your role will include support for Inzpire’s IT infrastructure, the support and maintenance of Mission Systems’ existing networks and the provision of IT expertise to help develop future projects.

At times you will need to travel within the UK to support Mission System’s customers, and as such, experience in a customer facing role is essential. The bulk of this travel will be planned in advance and will vary in duration depending on what is required. There may be times when working outside of standard hours and ad-hoc travel is necessary to help resolve IT incidents or disruption. A full UK Drivers licence is therefore essential.

Strong Microsoft skills are needed to support infrastructure that is largely comprised of Windows Servers (2012) and you will have to be comfortable working with Cisco Catalyst switches, with VSphere and Veeam. Existing knowledge / experience of NSX, Fortinet and Sophos XG firewalls, will be beneficial. There will also be considerable opportunity for on the job training, to develop your own skillsets and to pass those skills on to the rest of the team.

Our IT team is often tasked with the provision of technologies and capabilities that might not normally be required for businesses of our size and in so doing, there will be potential for you to work across all business areas and at all levels. Consequently your ability to work with non-IT colleagues and specialists alike, together with your creativity and tenacity will be highly prized. From time to time you will cover the duties of other team members due to absence or lack of availability in order to carry out basic helpdesk functions and maintain day to day operations.

In your role you will need to:

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the Inzpire infrastructure, the systems we maintain and the technologies we use.
  • Demonstrate experience of working in environments where IT security is prioritised and you should be able to apply the principles of security by design.
  • Lead various projects for the development of new services and the growth and development of our existing systems.
  • Provide IT advice and guidance in plain/layman’s terms to different areas of the business.
  • Be able to travel to customer sites to resolve 3rd line tasks and offer support as necessary, sometimes staying away overnight at the company’s expense.
  • Create and maintain documentation to detail changes or configuration settings in a way other engineers can follow and apply.
  • Monitor operations, support system administration tasks, apply and maintain patches system wide, and analyse logs as necessary.
  • Coordinate and work with suppliers, contractors and other third parties.
  • Perform security testing with standard software to identify vulnerabilities and to rectify and retest where necessary.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the services we provide across business and to help identify opportunities to improve our IT infrastructure.
  • Work within the bounds of Inzpire’s policies and procedures and to comply with external governance and best practice where possible and applicable.

The Person.

As a visible and accessible point of contact for our external and internal customers, it is essential that you have a ‘can-do’ attitude and have experience in a customer facing or service environment. A pragmatic approach to IT and technical challenges will be beneficial as will an ability to adapt and to work flexibly. You will be an engineer and a problem solver at heart with an analytical approach and have good organisational and administrative skills.

Due to the nature of elements of the role, the successful applicant will be required to complete National Security Vetting to Security Check (SC) level which will require criminal record, Security Service and credit reference checks. In addition, UK residency of at least 5 years will normally be required.

The Location.

The post is primarily based in Lincoln but the Company will require you to travel to our other sites within the UK in discharge of your duties. Provided that the responsibilities of the role are delivered, you will have considerable freedom to work in accordance with your own discretion and the Company’s best interests.
