Maintenance Technician

We have several fantastic opportunities for Maintenance Technicians to perform safe and efficient train unloading duties and pipeline operation as part of the operations team as well as undertake mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance and inspection duties to meet the requirements of planned maintenance schedules. The Maintenance Technicians will also provide response to breakdowns and faults on the Terminal, pipeline and at Northern Fuel Receipt facility.

NB: Role requires a level of dual-skilling (Electrical and Mechanical) to provide maintenance and breakdown support. If a candidate is not currently dual skilled then conversion training can be given to cover the missing discipline

Accountabilities:

* Maintain plant at a minimum of 98% operability status.

* Work to planned maintenance and inspection procedures and schedules, interfacing as necessary with the computerised maintenance management system including the upkeep of plant history files.

* Respond to corrective maintenance and inspection defects, maintaining records and plant history files as appropriate.

* Undertake operational activities for the area including Rail Offloading Terminal, Heathrow’s Northern Fuel Receipt Facility (NFRF) and the pipeline wayleave.

* Work with procured goods and contracted services.

* Full adoption of Safe Systems of work and achievement of HSEQ objectives.

* Provide operational support as may be required from time to time and respond to emergency situations including dealing with emergency authorities and statutory bodies.

* Supervise colleagues and contractors in safe systems of work, including risk assessment and gas testing procedures up to PTW Level 1.

* Provision of reports to supervisors and administrators for the corporate and divisional KPI monitoring (eg. safety conversations, near miss and incident reporting)

* Partake in safe shift handover, including communication of any plant or safety issues

* Provide on the job training support to new entrants specific to the discipline involved.

* Undertake functional and personal development training. Participate in an annual training needs review and formulation of the preceding year’s training plan.

* Undertake Emergency Response role (Incident Controller) as called-for at Terminal or Pipeline locations.

Knowledge and Experience

* A recognised qualification in a relevant engineering/technical discipline to NVQ level 3 or equivalent standard.

* Experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance and fault finding of plant and equipment. NB: Role requires a level of dual-skilling (Electrical and Mechanical) to provide maintenance and breakdown support. If a candidate is not currently dual skilled then conversion training can be given to cover the missing discipline.

* Awareness of Health and Safety in industrial environment, knowledge of statutory legislation on HSEQ matters and working understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work.

* Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency situations including dealing with emergency authorities and statutory bodies.

* Basic PC skills are essential for use of spreadsheets, computerised maintenance systems and sending Emails.

* Full driving licence

* Desirable – Experience in a maintenance role within the oil and gas pipeline and storage industry.

* Desirable – Knowledge of fuel handling, pipeline operations / pumpstation and reception facilities

* Desirable - Knowledge of relevant safe working practices associated with COSHH, Confined Space Entry, Lifting Operations, Pressure Vessels and Pipework Systems, Hydraulic Systems and Workshop Tasks.

Decision Making

* Work under own initiative prioritising workload, with due regard to team effort, site operational requirements and plant criticality.

* Make decisions related to safe undertaking of work and control measures for work undertaken by self, colleagues or contractors.

* Use of relevant local work instructions to ensure plant integrity and that maintenance tasks are undertaken efficiently and with due regard to health, safety and the environment

* Identify actions to address defects on equipment, plant and sites operated.

* Use purchased goods and services and maintain critical spares inventory with due regard to cost

* Be prepared to undertake Emergency Response role as called-for at Terminal or Pipeline locations.

Contact with Others

Day to day liaison with Shift Leaders or Terminal Manager to prioritise and agree work tasks and with other technicians as part of the Team.

Working with contractors providing purchased goods and services

Supervision of contractors and internal staff in safe control of works via permit to work procedures

Participation in formal meetings / safety induction training of contractors / leading group meetings

Participation in own staff appraisal and receiving training and coaching as and when appropriate

Reporting to other management, face-to-face, by telephone and in writing as requested.

Team player and ability to contribute to internal agreements.

98% plant availability targets

Complete required training and demonstrate competency to become an authorised mechanical person and an authorised electrical person to enable all maintenance works on the system to be completed.

Dimensions:

Work in accordance with safe systems of work and equivalent systems in place at sites operated by others. This includes preparation of risk assessments, work procedures and method statements for colleagues and contractor works.

Work in a shift pattern to provide operational and maintenance resource for the unloading of trains; the shift pattern will be governed by the train schedule.

Work additional hours as reasonably expected to fulfil maintenance and inspection duties, provide holiday/training cover for other team members, to respond to breakdowns and to assist with project work
