The Apprentice IT Technician will be involved in installing and maintaining computer systems and networks aiming for the highest functionality. You will also support the IT Support teamto “train” users of the systems to make appropriate and safe usage of the IT infrastructure initially and ultimately become proficient enough to do this independently.
The Apprentice IT Technician willdevelop a thorough knowledge of computer software, hardware and a variety of internet applications, networks and operating systems whilst you study towards the level 3 Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship programme.
The apprentice will be supported by a mentor in the workplace.
Having great troubleshooting abilities and attention to detail are essential to build and maintain updated and efficient computer systems, as well as networks to optimize the role of technology on business sustainability.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers etc.) Check computer hardware (HDD, mouse, keyboards etc.) to ensure functionality Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimise performance Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment Organise and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.) Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
Required Skills and Competencies:A basic understanding of diagnostic and problem solving skills Communication ability Organisational and time-management skills An understanding of diverse computer systems and networks would be ideal Some knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles would be good
Desired qualification requirements:
Candidates should have a minimum 3 GCSE's at C or above, plus English and Maths at grade D or above.
There is opportunity for the apprentice to become a permanent member of the team once they have successfully completed their apprenticeship programme.
