We currently have an excellent opportunity available for a Principal Process Engineer to join a leading design and engineering company on a permanent basis in Manchester. Our client specialises in a range of disciplines including initial architecture, civil and structural, building services and process engineering services. They are looking for a Principal Process Engineer to provide process expertise in the design of pharmaceutical and bio-technology plants in the nuclear industry.

The selected candidate will have a variety of roles and responsibilities, including:

* Provide all process engineering input required in the execution of a project and technical expertise in the wider process arena, particularly safety.

* Provide support to the sales and proposal departments and carry out concept and design studies.

* Ensure that process design is carried out according to programme and within budget.

* Carry out process design work including design concept and layout development, process descriptions and preparation of material balances.

* Preparation of process flow diagrams and hazardous area assessment.

* Prepare equipment list and process equipment data sheets.

* Process hazard studies (inc. HAZOP) and design safety reviews.

* Produce SIL assessments, detailed process design calculation and pressure relief design.

* Create utilities schedules, utilities flow diagrams and line sizing.

* Approve and check all process design work on allocated projects.

Essential skills, experience and attributes:

* First degree in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering.

* Being a member of ISPE or Member of the Nuclear Institute would be desirable.

* Relevant experience in process engineering design in contracting environment in either the pharmaceutical or nuclear industry.

* Experience in environmental projects, HAZOP study leadership, risk assessment and hazard analysis.

* Ability to make presentations to clients on process design or concept issues.

* Strong IT skills.

* Excellent communication and leadership skills
