IT Delivery

IT Delivery is the project management arm of HMRC, we are responsible for the end to end delivery of all IT projects across the department. Within HMRC all IT project managers sit in IT Delivery and they work with project managers across the business and other teams in HMRC to ensure that we deliver our IT projects on time, within budget and to sufficient quality.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced IT Delivery Manager to be involved in an exciting portfolio of HMRC programmes and projects during a time of significant change and transformation as HMRC drives the focus of IT delivery away from product centric solutions and fully exploits the opportunities that Digital Services and Data Analytics can provide.

The Role

You will take responsibility for a range of large, complex, or high impact projects and through a team of skilled project and programme managers deliver business initiatives and large-scale change that supports the delivery of HMRC’s strategic objectives.

You will achieve this through maintaining a strategic overview of a portfolio of projects, establishing frameworks for delivery, and leading from the front in setting and communicating a clear programme vision for both the IT Delivery team and the wider business stakeholders.

To achieve this, you will need to engage with key stakeholders across our IT teams and wider HMRC as well as external suppliers and delivery partners facilitating a collaborative approach to deliver successful outcomes.

Requirements (Essential and Desirable)

You will need to demonstrate within your application the following essential experience:

• Experience delivering medium to large scale technical and IT enabled business change projects against a backdrop of large scale organisational change.

• Solid understanding of a broad range of technologies.

• Commercial awareness including managing and monitoring of project costs and budgets ability to effectively challenge external suppliers to ensure best service and value for money.

• Experience of driving delivery through direct teams and multiple external suppliers.

• Understanding and practical experience of both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.

• Ability to work under broad direction in challenging and unpredictable environments.

• The ability to build and maintaining strong working relationships with stakeholders facilitating collaboration in order to achieve successful outcomes for the business.


• Either have or work to achieve professional IT qualifications such as Prince2
