Welding Supervisor

£30,000 - £35,000 per year

Job Summary:

To plan, manage, and optimize the activities of welding personnel in order to safely produce quality welded products in the most efficient manner possible.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Communicate job expectations and performance requirements to welders

• Liaison with production manager to maximize efficiency, quality and customer satisfaction

• Liaison with production manager on timings of samples, new and ongoing jobs

• Provide root cause analysis and execute corrective action plans

• Ensure that all welding meets the specified requirements

• Ensure that all welding inspection tasks are performed

• Maintain records, inspection results, and performance documentation

• Allocate the resources of the plant and of staff in the most effective proportions to meet targets.

• Initiate, Implement and drive change where improvements are needed

• Ensure production is considerate of Health & Safety

• Monitor and advise management when training plans are needed / required to ensure a multi skilled work force.

• Report any issues from changeover of day/night shifts.

• Ensure all welders have relevant paperwork and are logged on to Fabritrak

Key skills

• Ability to demonstrate the proper use of common welding processes

• Ability to interpret welding symbols and technical drawings

• Ability to give clear visual, written, and oral instruction

• Knowledge of materials and their weldability characteristics

• Knowledge of welder and welding safety standards

• Knowledge of welding inspection

• Fully skilled welding and sheet metal fabrication background

Quality:

The Welding Supervisor must ensure that welders are trained to create welds according to the applicable standard required of the customer order. They must then plan and monitor production to ensure that the welds are being produced correctly. To achieve first-time quality the Welding Supervisor will identify and correct poor fit-up and welding practices that generate excessive rework and scrap.

Productivity:

The Welding Supervisor optimizes the variables in order to produce the welded work as efficiently as possible. To this end he ensures the timely availability of the required materials, streamlines the sequence of operations, and monitors welder machine settings and performance in order to achieve the highest arc times and deposition rates that can be attained within the quality standard. To further maximize productivity, the Welding Supervisor will identify and correct poor fitting, over welding, and other practices that waste materials and produce excessive rework, scrap, work effort, motion and delay time.

Safety:

The Welding Supervisor is responsible for training welders in the proper use of personal protective equipment and the safe operation of welding machines and tools. He also coordinates safety-related functions and personnel, ensures welder adherence to safety protocols, and verifies that all equipment is operating within safe limits.

House-Keeping:

The Welding Supervisor is responsible for ensuring welding bays and welding holding area is kept clean, tidy and free from clutter. They must ensure that welders sweep and tidy bays after their shift. All welding consumables must be kept organised, tidy and controlled. Jigs should be kept in an orderly manner and as such to avoid damage
