BC Healthcare is looking for an enthusiastic Primary Lead Teacher for a specialist school supporting young people with learning disabilities, Autism and associated needs. To lead and develop the Primary section of the school.

The role:

Knowledge and Understanding:

1.Have detailed knowledge and understanding of pupils’ National Curriculum and other statutory requirements; to be able to demonstrate that knowledge and understanding and take account of wider curriculum developments, which are relevant to their work (including the school’s aims, objectives, policies and schemes of work).

2. Detailed knowledge of the learner profile, their support needs and their learning styles.

3. Fully engage in all training and aspects of on-going CPD

4. Be capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school P4 – GSCE.

Planning and Setting Expectations:

1.Plan effectively to meet the needs of pupils Special Educational Needs and make an appropriate contribution to the preparation, implementation, monitoring and review of Individual education Plans.

2. Develop innovative and emergent schemes of work that include learners’ interests and account for anticipated rates of progression based on a range of effective assessments.

3. Set high expectations for support staff both in planning and implementation of learning.

4. Set well-grounded, realistic yet challenging expectations and targets, making effective use of information about pupils’ prior attainment.

Teaching & Managing Pupil Learning:

1. Ensure effective teaching and management of whole classes, groups and individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained, and best use is made of teaching time.

2. Be able to employ a variety of differentiated teaching approaches in order to accommodate the varied and individual special educational needs of pupils in the class.

3. Must be able to develop strong professional relationships with learners and staff and be highly focused on their development and well being.

4. Secure a good standard of pupil behaviour in the classroom by establishing and consistently reinforcing appropriate rules and high expectations of discipline which pupils respect; proactively managing behaviour in the context of the positive behaviour policy of the school

Pupil Achievement:

1. To determine the Primary curriculum

2. Set clear targets for improvement of pupils’ achievement, monitor pupils’ achievement, monitor pupils’ progress towards those targets and use appropriate teaching strategies in the light of this.

3. Effectively manage a team of LSWs to consistently monitor targets with a high degree of accuracy.

4. Enable all pupils to achieve regardless of age, race, gender, ability level, sexual orientation.

Additional Responsibilities

This is a full time permanent role with a salary between £23,000 - £30,000 per annum.
