Job Purpose:

As an Operational Instructor the successful applicant will be required to deliver training and coaching of HV operational skills to existing staff and contractors working in the EPN Region, and assessing the progress and competencies of all operational trainees. This will involve undertaking training and assessments at the training centres and occasional site visits to carry out training and assessments at the work place.

Principal Accountabilities:

To further enhance the technical competencies of staff and to support the business needs throughout UK Power Networks. An important element of this will be to ensure the high standards of training are constantly maintaining focus on Safety, Health, Quality and the Environment. To support this, trainers will be expected to be able to promote the latest technologies, techniques and policies throughout all training courses. A full training and development package will be provided to enhance the skills of the new trainer.

* You will be responsible for the day to day delivery of Technical Training ensuring it meets the required standards in safety, customer service and quality

* You will also work closely with other Technical Instructors on producing training plans and assessment material

* Will assist in the development and introduction of new technology, supporting operational staff and Networks management teams accordingly

* Providing strong leadership and building an environment of professionalism and co-operation

* You will promote an environment of technical excellence and safety awareness

* Carry out any additional duties and special projects as required

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

* The successful candidate must possess good communication skills and have the confidence to demonstrate practical skills and deliver lecture classroom material.

* To have a comprehensive knowledge of the EPN LV and HV distribution networks and associated safety rules preferably gained in a field engineer role, after training will be able to deliver the full range of operational courses.

* Holder of a current operational competency certificate:

* Senior Authorised Person: Underground and Overhead upto 33kv (Ideally)

* A can do mentality is essential to inject fresh thinking and new ideas for self development in an ever changing technological environment.

* Demonstrates team player qualities.

* Self motivated, well organised and able to judge and manage short and long range tasks consecutively.

* A working knowledge of applicable I.T systems (Powerpoint, Excel, Word).

* Formal HSS qualification preferred (IOSH, NEBOSH)

* ONC or HNC preferred

Nature and Scope:

This position is for an replacement resource in the Technical Training team to ensure it can deliver the predicted training demand increase associated with the recruitment forecast. The role is an ideal opportunity for those wishing to develop their skills and experience to further their career and for those wishing to pass on their knowledge and skills. Full training will be given to the successful candidate to achieve the required instructional and presentation techniques, NVQ assessors and HSS qualification as applicable.

The Operational Instructor reports to the Training Centre Supervisor, and is responsible for designing and delivering all operational technical training required by the business.

Training delivery and design is carried out by means of a close liaison with other technical trainers, operational staff and networks management teams accordingly to ensure training is delivered to the required standards of quality, safety and customer service within a timely manner.

The job holder is required to have a thorough knowledge of the EPN LV and HV Distribution Networks and associated safety rules to be able to deliver a full range of operational courses.

A level of influencing and interpersonal skills will be essential in this role. He/she will have a can-do mentality, and have the ability to inject fresh thinking and new ideas for self development and an ever-changing technological environment.

Health & Safety Responsibilities
