Main Responsibility:

Schedules and forecasts the right volumes of components, services and products inbound to the business from our suppliers.
To ensure that strategic material planning processes are in place and maintained for operational and production continuity.
Responsible for managing the procurement functions and the procurement team of the company.

Duties:

Ensure that material scheduling strategy and processes are in place and work effectively in order to ensure material supply meets production requirements whilst optimising costs.
Take ownership of material planning processes:

Ensure appropriate batch size levels are set/changed according to demand
Ensure appropriate safety stock levels are set/changed according to demand
Check MRP recommendations are valid and adjust MRP settings if required
Ensure valid MRP recommendations are executed in a timely manner
Ensure suppliers confirm delivery dates and take remedial action in the case of delays
Monitor supplier performance in terms of “on time in full” delivery performance
Take appropriate action in the case of supplier over or under delivery
Focus on eliminating all material shortages that affect production

Manage inventory risk and ensure that contingency plans are in place.
Seek and recommend solutions to overcome issues arising in order to meet production requirements and address operational risks
Design, develop and implement flexible solutions to aid business efficiency, drive process improvements and add value.
Support continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure that professional and consistent materials planning processes are applied across the business.
Ensure that any Material Requirements Planning system (MRP) or IT system in place is effective and that data is accurate and up to date and resolve any issues as required.
Ensure the integrity of Bill of Materials (BOM) and inventory accuracy at all times and manage and control inventory levels and movements.
Take responsibility for obsolete parts process and ensure business is left with minimum liability and minimal waste.
Oversee labelling processes to ensure correct parts/finished assemblies reach correct customers at the correct time.
Ensure strategic and operational information, reports and metrics are available to share with others in the business as and when required.
Report on achievement of targets and identify any corrective action.
Negotiate contracts (where applicable), improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.
Monitor supplier’s capacity and adjust sourcing to maintain the flow of parts.
Monitor key supplier’s cost and delivery performance. Take corrective actions, with QA, as required.
Work with the Design, QA and Production departments in following the companies parts approval process for both existing and new suppliers.
Manage design changes with suppliers, whilst maintaining delivery dates in line with production schedules.
Respond quickly to customer requirements from our sales department.
Resolve invoice issues with our accounts department.
Provide support and communicate effectively with the Manufacturing Director on all aspects of the purchasing department.

Strategy and Development

Contribute to the development of the Manufacturing Plan. Communicate this plan to employees to ensure support and progress.
Contribute to the quarterly Sales & Operations Planning management (S&OP) to ensure an accurate forecast is in place.
Recruitment, training and retention of an efficient Procurement Team.

Education and experience

Degree qualified or equivalent.
Significant experience of working in a senior materials planning role.
Knowledge and understanding of a variety of component manufacturing techniques and processes.
Experience in handling supplier relationships.
Strong IT knowledge and skills including Excel.
Expert knowledge and experience of using Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems

Salary DOE: £40,000 - £45,000 + Benefits + Bonus
