Role overview

We are looking for a skilled scientist with experience in the field of antibody discovery to join UCB’s Core antibody discovery team. The successful candidate will utilize UCB’s proprietary single B cell technologies to discover therapeutic and tool antibodies. They will also look to develop and establish new technologies for efficiently interrogating immune repertoires with the aim to identify the highest quality monoclonal antibodies.

Primary responsibilities

Using UCB’s world-leading single B cell technologies, discover antibodies as potential therapeutic molecules and as tool reagents to support projects from pre-portfolio to clinical candidates
Use your exceptional practical skills, excellent communication and team working abilities to drive our innovative antibody projects forward from the laboratory
Be responsible for clearly presenting work in a variety of cross-functional meetings
Provide intellectual and practical input to develop and implement new technologies that facilitate the mining of immune B cell repertoires to enable discovery of monoclonal antibodies
May be responsible for supervising, training and managing more junior members of the team
Promotion of UCB’s capabilities and expertise externally

Essential requirements

Significant research experience in an industrial or highly regarded academic laboratory.
A passion for delivering innovative new medicines for patients suffering with serious disease.
Experience of antibody discovery using single B cell culturing/screening technologies or hybridoma.
Familiarity with display methods and immune repertoire deep sequencing would also be advantageous.
Have a good understanding of molecular biology and immunology.
A highly motivated individual with a proven ability to deliver to tight timelines.
Exceptional organisational, communication and inter-personal skills.
Experience of supervising or mentoring junior scientists would also be desirable.
Able to work as part of a team but can also operate independently, using existing knowledge and published literature to ensure high levels of scientific excellence
