Salary Range: £39,370 - £62,434 (Band E to D: Dependent on Skills and Experience)

Job Purpose:

The Operational/Project Engineer role is to undertake operation and maintenance duties and project management of high voltage construction works up to 11kV (33kV). The Operational/Project Engineer is also responsible for supervision of craft staff and contractors where required to complete the maintenance and construction activities in a safe and efficient manner.

Although based at the site above and principally working in that area the candidate will be expected to develop their skills and authorisations to be able to work on any of the projects within UKPN Services. Certain areas of work will require the successful candidate to attain appropriate clearances and passes.

To qualify for the higher Band D salary, a candidate must have as a minimum an HNC and be active as a 33kV SAP. An 11kV SAP may reach Band D only if they have the HNC qualification and the nature of their job role requires them to work on multiple client networks, across the UKPN Services portfolio, on protection systems similar to those found on 33 kV working.

Principal Accountabilities:

* Project manage electrical works under both capital and services

* Liaise with the client and other stakeholders to ensure project delivery

* Ensure contractual obligations are met

* Manage budgets and revenue streams associated with works

* Ensure billing is undertake to recover costs

* Manage the compensation and variation process for new works

* Seek new opportunities with clients

* Carry out operational SAP duties at 11kV (33kV)

* Operation and Maintenance of the HV/LV Client and UKPNS owned assets up to 11kV (33kV) including switchgear, transformers, isolators and switches.

* Maintenance and testing of the 11kV (33kV) and LV Control and Protection Relays and Systems

* Ensuring compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Health and Safety policies

* Developing site specific H,S & E procedures

* Compliance with UK Power Networks quality policies

* Operate and update Asset database for work competed

* Responsible for both reactive and planned maintenance activities

* Carry out fault investigation and repairs as required.

* Modifying equipment and drawings to ensure the efficient operation of the substations

* Ensuring the compliance with the distribution safety rules during all activities.

* Active supervision of all contractors/staff working on site

Main Duties:

* Project management and cost control

* Provide technical and practical support as part of the team in order to deliver all planned works in addition to all Operations and Maintenance delivery requirements.

* Attend and contribute to team briefings, give feed-back where necessary

* Identify potential project risks/opportunities (raise awareness within team / company)

* Proactively seeking continuous improvement

* Required to participate in a standby rota and work additional hours as required to maintain the supplies to the Allenby Infrastructure.

* Participate in local standby rota

* Working unsocial hours when required to respond to system faults and complete maintenance activities

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

Experience in the managing projects and maintenance of distribution systems up to 11kV (33kV)

Cleared Medical & Drugs and Alcohol screening

Educated to a minimum of ONC (HNC) level qualification, or equivalent, in Electrical Engineering

Relevant Safety Qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH

Ability to read schematic and line drawings and understand content

Working knowledge of PowerOn

Aptitude to supervise contractors

Ability to work in different environments, including confined spaces and at height

A thorough understanding of all statutory requirements, including HS&E regulations.

Demonstrable track record within an Electrical distribution environment

Excellent analytical, organisation & planning skills

Ability to identify problems, understand key issues and investigate alternatives

Strong interpersonal and customer facing skills

Computer literate

NRSWA (City and Guilds) Supervisors Certificate

Hold full UK driving licence
