Our client is currently looking for a Level 3 IT Support Engineer, to become the newest member of a proactive and innovate company in the South West. With the company being based in Bodmin, your Monday – Friday office would be no more than 30 minutes from a Cornish beach and 30 minutes into Plymouth City Centre. See below for more details -

Job Outline –

You will be the IT Internal systems CISCO Networking Engineer working within our client’s Engineering team. You will report to the Engineering Management to provide daily maintenance and improvement of the company local, hosted and customer IT infrastructure. Incorporating new projects, system improvements and fault diagnostics.

Key Tasks –

• Monitoring WAN/LAN systems status, security, performance and availability.

• You will need to report all failures on the internal job logging system.

• Daily monitoring of system logs, reporting issues and applying fixes. (Super-user access is required)

• Design and implement configuration backup strategies

• Review and redesign internal WAN architecture

• Review and improve internal and customer network systems monitoring and security

• Detailing Topology using Microsoft VISIO

• Review, upgrade & Implementation of new Services & Systems in association with Engineering Management, Project Teams and customer commissions.

• Authoring R&D Reports.

• Authoring of reports to Engineering & Senior Management, customers and stakeholders. Constructing coherent feasibility studies, system deficit & upgrade recommendation reports at advanced & basic Technical level.

• BCDR IT strategies and design.

Knowledge and Skills required –


• 3 years’ experience in IT & servicing IT Systems, server facilities administration & Customers

• 3 years’ experience in CISCO routing and firewall administration

• 3 years’ enterprise level design experience accompanied by case studies

• Wireshark network diagnostics

• Familiarity with a wide range of alternative vendor networking equipment spanning SOHO to Enterprise technologies.

• Good general education to GCSE/A level standard

• Experience in IT i.e., different operating systems, communications & networking

• Good Social Engineering Skill set, as well as written communication skills essential

• The ability to work co-operatively within a team, across the Company, and with external customers where applicable.

• Ability to prioritise workloads

• Ability to problem Solve & diagnose and fix Systems hardware and make sure they are operating correctly.

Specific experience desirable but not essential with:

• Microsoft Windows Server 2000/2003/2008

• Microsoft Windows XP / Vista

• SCO Openserver Unix / Unixware Configuration, administration & networking

• SUSE or similar Linux Configuration, administration & networking.

• Knowledge & understanding of virtualisation technologies .Including VMWare workstation, ESX server & associated technologies.

• HP & SAN technologies

• Exchange Server & mail technologies

• Advanced Networking techniques

• General understanding of Computer systems and their architecture

• Office products (Microsoft Office xp/2003/2007 & OpenOffice)

• Symantec Backup Exec & archiving technologies

• Anti-virus technologies & methodologies with specific knowledge of Sophos products

• Scripting languages used across the internal systems . Java, shell, python, cgi, C & variants

• SNMP configuration & use

• MS SQL & MySql

• Familiarisation with Enterprise & server related technologies such as remote administration.

• Managing & administering a server room environment

• Experience and understand of diagnosing networks with Wireshark

• CCTV systems

• Wireless networks

Additional knowledge a bonus but not essential in:

• MySql


• GP Clinical System Environment and government infrastructure requirements.

• ISO 27001 - Information security management

• ISO 22301 - BDM and DR

• ISO 20001 - IT Service Management

• Clinical Safety

This role is predominantly office based in Bodmin, however may require work at customer premises to allow for network diagnostics, consultation and design meetings. Occasional out of hours work where required will be needed to minimise downtime when doing maintenance or system fixes
