Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)

The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.

The RYA has a mission to increase the diversity and number of boaters within the United Kingdom, in order to protect our network of clubs, centres, class associations and support the broader marine sector and industry. Having introduced over nearly a million young people into boating since 2005 through the RYA’s OnBoard programme and 32,000 a year through Push the Boat Out, the RYA has achieved a great deal. However, the world is changing and boating needs to work hard to continue to attract new participants and ensure they are supported through a lifetime within the sport.

The RDO Regional Development Manager Role:

The RYA is looking for an accomplished people manager and leader who will be integral to the RYA’s Sport Development team.

Their remit will be to manage our team of Regional Development Officers who are central to the work the RYA does; working with clubs, commercial centres, volunteers and the broader marine industry to increase participation in boating. This will include working with the Director of Sport Development to deliver the participation element of the RYA Strategy and facilitate the creation and execution of a series of Regional Plans which tailor our approach to the unique opportunities and challenges each RYA Region presents us.

The ability to think strategically will be key, as will the ability to network and influence more broadly across the RYA and with the many stakeholders and partners in which the RYA works with. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in project or programme management and a detailed understanding of the sport or the marine sector. They will have experience of managing and developing a team and working with a complex network of supporting stakeholders.

As our Regional Development Officer Team work remotely, experience of leading, motivating and managing a field-based team to achieve set objectives and demonstrable experience of setting and delivering individual and team objectives is essential.

Based at RYA HQ in Hamble, Southampton this role will involve some travel and attendance to conferences and events outside of normal office house which time off in lieu is allowed.

If your skills match the vacancy criteria you will be sent a RYA application form. This will need to be completed by Midday Friday 5th April.

Interviews to be held on: Monday 15 and/or Tuesday 16 April 2019

The RYA is committed to equality of opportunity. We would encourage applications from women, candidates with disabilities and ethnic minority groups who are currently under-represented at this level of post.
